Today we’d like to introduce you to Deon Thomas.
Hi Deon , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m Deon Thomas, born and raised right here in Dallas, Texas. If you know me, you know I’ve always had my hands in many things—from nightlife to creative projects, from community work to just showing up and showing out. I’m a proud Dallas socialite, known for living life loud and full, clubbing like there’s no tomorrow. But behind all the fun and flash, there’s purpose. There’s depth. And there’s a whole lot of heart.
I was raised by Southern women—strong, smart, and full of soul. And those roots run deep in me. My mother taught me early on never to depend on anyone for anything, and that lesson stuck. That’s why I move the way I do. I don’t wait on handouts, I create opportunities. I don’t fold under pressure—I push harder.
Life hasn’t always been kind to me. I’ve been homeless. I’ve lost money. I’ve had moments where everything seemed to fall apart—but through it all, I never lost faith in myself. My creativity, my drive, and my love for people kept me going. I’ve always known I was meant for more.
On July 19th, I’m leading something close to my heart—One Mile for Mercy, a protest focused on the mistreatment of immigrants in a country they helped build. It’s not just about immigration—it’s about human dignity. No one deserves to be treated like less, and I’ll always stand on that.
This is just the beginning for me. I want to take my passion for community work across the world. I want to be known not just for turning up, but for turning things around—for building platforms, shifting culture, and making real change. I want my name to ring out in this city and beyond for what I do, not just who I am.
With everything I’ve faced and everything I’ve overcome, I know there’s nothing too big for me. I’m Deon Thomas—and I’m walking in my purpose.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road—but I wouldn’t change any part of the journey. I’ve had to face some real-life challenges that most people don’t talk about. I’ve experienced homelessness, I’ve lost money, I’ve trusted the wrong people, and I’ve had to rebuild myself more than once. There were times when I didn’t know where my next meal was coming from, or how I was going to keep going—but somehow, I always did.
What’s kept me grounded is my mindset. I’ve always believed in myself, even when things looked like they were falling apart. I had to learn how to stand on my own two feet, how to survive, and most importantly, how to thrive. Those struggles taught me resilience, and they made me hungrier for success—not just for me, but for my community. Every obstacle I’ve faced has given me the fuel to keep pushing, to stay creative, and to always move with purpose.
So no, it hasn’t been smooth—but that’s what makes my story real. And I wear every scar with pride
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I’m the Director of IT GURLZ, a creative production and talent management brand based right here in Dallas. At its core, IT GURLZ is all about visibility, confidence, and empowerment—especially for the girls and creatives who are often overlooked or underestimated. Through my work, I operate as an image architect, personal stylist, content creator, and what I like to call “the internet’s BFF.” I bring vibes, strategy, and style together in a way that helps people feel seen and celebrated—on and offline.
What sets IT GURLZ apart is that it’s more than a brand—it’s a movement. We specialize in building people up and building platforms around them. Whether it’s styling a shoot, managing talent, directing creative campaigns, or just helping someone align with their own star power, we do it with intention and excellence. I work with bottle girls, influencers, strippers, creatives, event hosts—you name it—because I believe everyone deserves to shine in their own lane. My eye for detail, my understanding of culture, and my ability to help people see themselves bigger than they ever have—that’s what I’m known for.
What I’m most proud of is how real my brand is. I created IT GURLZ from experience—because I am the IT girl in my own life story. I know what it’s like to have to create something from nothing, to reinvent yourself, to make your own lane when none existed. Everything I pour into this brand comes directly from my own journey. My business is a reflection of my life—my grit, my creativity, my community focus, and my love for transformation.
If there’s one thing I want readers to know, it’s that IT GURLZ is here to break molds and build moments. We’re not just serving looks—we’re building futures. Whether you’re trying to level up your brand, your presence, or your mindset, I’ve got you. We’re here to amplify the real you—and we’re just getting started.
Right now, I’m working closely with a local Dallas artist named Derrick Blume, who’s incredibly talented and full of potential. I’ve been helping him shape and structure his career—not just creatively, but also strategically. I’m guiding him through everything from visual identity and branding to performance presence, content creation, and how to navigate the industry with both confidence and clarity.
My role in his journey is part mentor, part creative director, and part accountability partner. It’s not just about making him look like an artist—it’s about helping him feel like one from the inside out. I’m helping him tap into who he really is, what message he wants to share, and how to build something sustainable, not just viral. That’s what IT GURLZ does—we don’t just create moments, we help create movements.
Working with Derrick is a perfect example of how my business and my life go hand-in-hand. I’m passionate about helping people—especially those from my city—level up, own their story, and walk in their purpose. Derrick’s journey is just beginning, and I’m proud to be part of it.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Through it all, the biggest lesson I’ve learned is that alignment is everything. When you’re aligned with your purpose, your people, and your path, nothing can stop you—not even the setbacks. I’ve learned that success doesn’t always come fast or easy, but if you stay consistent, stay real, and stay rooted, it will come.
I’ve also learned the importance of protecting your energy and trusting your gut. Not every opportunity is the right one, and not everyone who claps for you is really in your corner. That’s why I move with intention now. I’ve had to grow into someone who knows their worth and isn’t afraid to walk away from anything that doesn’t match that.
Another major lesson? Community over competition. I’ve gotten further by pouring into others than I ever did trying to do everything alone. Helping people—like I’m doing with Derrick Blume or the girls I work with through IT GURLZ—reminds me why I do what I do. When they win, I win too.
Lastly, I’ve learned that resilience is my superpower. I’ve been through things that could’ve broken me, but I let them build me instead. Every loss taught me how to pivot. Every delay taught me patience. Every time I had to start over, I came back smarter, stronger, and more creative. And that’s why I know I’m just getting started.
