Today we’d like to introduce you to Jiron Anthony.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started cutting hair at the age of 16 in the kitchen of my mother’s home with one pair of clippers. This led to me going to barber school in Lafayette Regional Inst. I took a 15mth course and graduated in 1994 with my Barber’s License. My first opportunity was given to me at Charlie Berard Barber Shop in Jeanerette, LA. I then took my talents to Johnnie Bo’s Barber Shop for 5yrs in Four Corners, LA. In 2001 I decided to move to Dallas to gain more exposure as a top rated Barber. I ended up getting a major opportunity to show my skills at SK1 Barber shop in Irving, TX by Larry Abrams owner of SK1. Mr. Abrams was a great mentor teaching me a few things on how to marketing myself in such a large Metroplex. This led me to moving on and starting my own barber business called Perfections by Keith at Hightower Salons in Irving, TX for 10yrs. After my 10yrs at Hightower I moved on to another salon suites and then 3yrs later I am now in a new location where I have rebranded my business to J Kutz in Prosper, TX. With my rebranding came with an updated look in the shop along with my new name and logo. I took a leap of faith in my lord and savior that he would bless me with obtaining new customers in a different environment. With majority of my old and faithful customers coming along with me. Prosper, TX is a new and upcoming city with few barbers. I have set myself to target new customers from Mckinney to Denton along Hwy 380. I am looking forward to establishing new relationships in the Collin County area.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I first started working in a shop; it was not a smooth road on building clientele. Coming from a small town into a major city was a very big challenge until I noticed most barbers at the time did not use razors and this method help me to build my clientele. This method led to clients in other barbers chairs to leave and book with me to experience the razor line.
As you know, we’re big fans of J Kutz. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am a Professional Licensed Barber. I specialized in men cuts to include: hot towel shaving and razor cuts for over 20 plus years. I also specialized in women short cuts.
Any big plans?
My plan is to retire from this business and have someone become the lead barber in J Kutz within the next 10yrs.
