Today we’d like to introduce you to Latisha Cleveland.
Hi Latisha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My passion for creating indulgent desserts was ignited at a young age. I learned the art of expressing love through food from my mother, Janet and my grandmother, Nola. Though they are no longer with me, their spirit continues to inspire my creations.
I started baking and treat making when I became a mother to my daughters, Janae and Jamia. My journey started out as a creative outlet reserved for celebrating my daughters’ birthdays as I’ve spent the last 26 years equally as passionate about bringing justice to vulnerable members of our community as a law enforcement officer. When I decided to retire in 2026, I established, ExtravaSweets, an extravagant sweets company, to build upon the talents passed on to me by my elders combined with the refined decorating skills that I am continually building upon.
Each dessert is homemade, yet infused with a touch of elegance.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When I first started my business, I totally underestimated how much time I would need to dedicate to my craft to produce treats to my standard, “extravagant”. I lost count of how days I functions with only a few hours of sleep from learning my craft and how many products I threw away because while they may have tasted good they did not look they way I wanted them to, so I would throw them away and start over again. What made this even more challenging was the fact that I was doing so after working a full shift at my day job and also balancing being a wife and mother. Overtime, I have refined my skills and developed better time management skills that allow me to produce the level of product I desire and enjoy my time when I’m not in the kitchen which has been affectionally nicknamed “The Lab” by my family and friends.
I truly recognize the value of my trade and I do not take for granted that I am not just making treats, but instead am making memories for an occassion that is important to someone. With that in mind, I continue to perfect my skills to ensure that my treats meet all parties’ expectations.
As you know, we’re big fans of ExtravaSweets. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
ExtravaSweets is a dessert company specializing in custom treats. We offer cupcakes, dessert shooters and chocolate-covered treats including sandwich cookies, strawberries, pretzels and gourmet cereal treats. Since formally launching in January 2026, our most popular items have been our custom chocolate-covered sandwich cookies, gourmet cereal treats and a delectable combination of white chocolate and sanding sugar covered strawberries we call “Sugarberries”.
This spring I launched my Graduation Treat Packages and the sales exceeding my expectations. In the ExtravaSweets way, none of the treat packages were exactly alike. I customized them to the graduate including their photo, school information, and interests. I was intentional to ensure that each treat package design was unique and exemplary of their accomplishment be it a high school diploma, bachelors degree or doctoral degree.
What sets me apart in the oversaturated treats market is my attention to detail. It is evident in my flavor profiles, design of edible custom treat toppers, packaging, and customer service. Again, I am not just making desserts, I am making memories.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Consistency. In the same meticulous way that I built cases over the last two decades, I also aim to produce my desserts so that I meet my customers’ expectations every time they place any order. Planning an event or selecting a gift for a special event can be stressful. When a customer hires ExtravaSweets, they can rest assured that the desserts will be extravagant as I am continually building my flavor profiles and learning new decorating techniques.
