Community Highlights: Meet McKenna Majors of Smalls Acai Bowls

Today we’d like to introduce you to McKenna Majors.

Hi McKenna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
We went to Hawaii back in 2019 where Tanner moved after graduating from Arlington high school! While we were there, we ate Açaí bowls daily… sometimes twice a day. THEY WERE SO GOOD!!! we got engaged in Waipio valley on the big island and jetted off back to Texas. When we got back home, we quickly realized what Arlington was missing… so (I) McKenna started making them and homemade granola to pair with the bowls! we didn’t think much of it at the time, we were just making them for ourselves, we were wedding planning, covid hit, we got a deaf puppy, and we had jobs that kept us living paycheck by paycheck.

Our one-year anniversary was in July 2021, we went to Colorado with our dogs and the entire trip was us trying to come up with SOMETHING to get us out of they “paycheck to paycheck” lifestyle.

We both have always had the entrepreneurial mindset and wanted to create a place where you can have a little taste of Hawaii, listening to cool jams outside while playing cornhole on our Astroturf.

We had many business ideas and we kept going back to the Açaí bowls.

By the end of the trip, we said “LETS JUST FREAKIN DO IT” and by the time we got back home from our week-long trip, we had a beat-up old electrical supplies trailer that my dad gifted us and we were ready to get our hands dirty.

Tanner built the inside of the trailer with the help of my father and brother, I made over 20 batches of granola and made everyone in our family vote on their favorite, I played around and created our menu for a year, Tanner worked so hard on clearing our yard (full of overgrown plants/trees/ you name it) putting in crushed granite and Astroturf for an aesthetically pleasing seating area (where our trailer is permanently placed) and the rest is history!!!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We had a few minor bumps in the road, but really… it has just been amazing!! We think this is exactly where God wants us!

As you know, we’re big fans of Smalls Acai Bowls. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Our business is founded on “Good feeling” type of food! the food that gives you energy and makes your stomach happy! We are known for our organic/gluten-free homemade granola and our killer bowls! we believe we are set apart because we give people with gluten allergies a chance at granola!

Acai bowls are sad without that golden goodness!! we also believe we are set apart from others because we are the first Açaí bowl shop in Arlington.

We are proud we brought a cool little vibe in the place we grew up!

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Exploring in nature with our pups, chips, and salsa on a patio, laughing until our stomachs hurts with our family, fall weather walks to a coffee shop, and putting up our Christmas tree before thanksgiving. #ChristmasForever
