Community Highlights: Meet Shirley Chan of Garden Of Selah Esthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shirley Chan.

Shirley, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Shirley, and I’m the founder of Garden Of Selah Esthetics, a private esthetics suite in Burleson. But my journey in beauty didn’t start here—it started in California, as a co-owner of The Cave Of Wonders, where I spent years learning not just the technical side of esthetics, but the deeper meaning of client care, trust, and intention.

Moving to Texas marked a turning point in my life and career. I felt a strong desire to start over and build something that reflected not only my skill set, but my faith, values, and the kind of atmosphere I wanted women to experience when they sat in my chair.

That vision became Garden Of Selah Esthetics. Created just 10 months ago as a space rooted in faith, intentional skincare, and rest that feels sacred. More than a beauty suite, it is a place where women can pause, breathe, and feel genuinely cared for in both body and spirit. While my brand primarily serves women, men are welcome as well.

As a solo esthetician with 4 years of experience, I specialize in intentional skincare and face and body waxing services that prioritize both results and experience. Along with select lash and brow enhancements. Every service is designed with care, because I believe beauty treatments should feel just as grounding as they are transformative.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Starting and rebuilding my career in a new state came with a lot of growth, but also a lot of challenges.

One of the biggest adjustments was relocating from California to Texas and essentially starting over. Moving meant leaving behind an established flow of clients, systems, and familiarity, and having to rebuild from the ground up in a completely new market.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Garden Of Selah Esthetics is a private esthetics suite located in Burleson focused on creating intentional, results-driven experiences for women who want more than just a beauty appointment. My goal has always been to create a space that feels peaceful, welcoming, and genuinely restorative from the moment someone walks through the door.

I specialize in intentional skincare, face and body waxing, and select lash and brow enhancements. What sets my business apart is the level of care and intention behind every service. I never want clients to feel rushed or like just another appointment on the schedule. Every treatment is personalized to the client’s needs while also creating an atmosphere where they can slow down, feel cared for, and leave feeling refreshed both physically and mentally.

Faith also plays a huge role in my brand. Garden Of Selah Esthetics was built on the idea of creating a place to pause, reflect, and be restored in the middle of busy everyday life. The word “Selah” itself represents pausing and reflecting, and that meaning is woven throughout the entire client experience—from the environment I create to the way I serve each person who sits in my chair.

One thing I’m most proud of brand-wise is seeing how faithful God has been throughout this journey. Building a business from the ground up in a new state came with uncertainty and challenges, but every step has reminded me that this business is bigger than me. In just 10 months, Garden Of Selah Esthetics has become a reflection of God’s grace, provision, and the vision He placed on my heart to create a space rooted in peace, care, and intentionality.

More than anything, I want readers to know that this brand was built to serve women well. My prayer is that every person who walks through the doors feels seen, valued, cared for, and able to step away from the noise of everyday life, even if just for a moment. Whether someone comes in for skincare, waxing, or a lash service, I want them to leave feeling refreshed, uplifted, and reminded of the importance of slowing down and caring for themselves intentionally.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
There were moments of doubt, financial pressure, and the challenge of building visibility in a new area where I was essentially unknown. But those challenges also shaped me. They have strengthened my discipline, my faith, and my confidence in the vision God placed in me for this space. Every setback pushed me to refine not just my business, but how I serve people—more intentionally, more thoughtfully, and with deeper purpose.
