Community Highlights: Meet Trang Nguyen of CVA PRODUCTS

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trang Nguyen.

Trang Nguyen

Hi Trang, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Our twins have suffered from eczema since birth, particularly my daughter. We tried various prescriptions, creams, and skincare products without success until we discovered goat milk products. These products effectively reduced their eczema, which had troubled them for years. Inspired by this success, I decided to create my own soaps, lotions, laundry detergents, and shampoos to alleviate their skin condition. My handmade soaps and soothing balms have effectively managed their flare-ups. Remarkably, my daughter has not used any prescriptions, store-bought skincare products, or laundry detergents for over three years. Recognizing that other parents face similar challenges, I was compelled to help. Thus, CVA Products was conceived in February 2021. Our mission is to share these exceptional, handcrafted, and natural products with those who can benefit from them the most. The company’s name is a tribute to my children, Charlotte, Vincent, and Alexander.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
CVA Products currently faces significant challenges that hinder our growth and market presence, particularly in the realm of sales and brand recognition. Despite our efforts with targeted ads, our overall sales performance remains below expectations. Most notably, our newly opened storefront has seen almost negligible traffic. This situation emphasizes a critical need for a strategic overhaul of our marketing and online presence. Our website requires better search engine optimization and content updates to improve visibility and user engagement. Our digital marketing efforts need to be more aggressive and focused. However, to truly rectify our branding challenges and increase market penetration, a structured and well-resourced marketing strategy is essential.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Our twins have been suffering from eczema since birth, particularly my daughter. I tried various prescriptions, creams, and skincare products, but nothing seemed to work until we discovered goat milk products. These products proved highly effective in reducing the eczema that had troubled them for years. Inspired by this success, I decided to create my own soaps, lotions, laundry detergents, and shampoos to alleviate the twins’ skin condition. The soaps and soothing balms I crafted have effectively managed their flare-ups. Remarkably, my daughter has been free from prescription medications, store-bought skincare products, and commercial laundry detergents for over three years. Realizing that other parents were grappling with similar challenges, I felt compelled to offer assistance. Thus, the concept of CVA Products was conceived in February 2021. My intention was to share these exceptional handmade natural products with those who could benefit the most. I named the enterprise after my children, Charlotte, Vincent, and Alexander. I did not change the business name after my youngest son, Zander, was born. I wanted to include Zander in the business name, so I decided to use the name Alexander and split it into Alex + Zander. The business name remains the same today, but it now includes the names of all four of our children.

Moving forward, when my youngest son, Zander, was born in March of 2022, he unfortunately developed cradle cap. Cradle cap is a common skin condition that affects babies and causes crusting and white or yellow scales on the scalp. Our twins had also experienced cradle cap when they were born, and at that time, there was no effective treatment available. Our doctor prescribed an ointment and recommended switching to a medicated shampoo, but these measures did not prove successful. Ultimately, we had to shave their heads in order to properly clean and treat the condition. It was a difficult decision, and we tried everything we could to avoid it. The condition persisted for approximately six months before resolving on its own.

When Zander developed cradle cap, we were naturally concerned. Unfortunately, none of the soaps I made with goat milk and beer were effective in treating the condition. In fact, they seemed to exacerbate it. This experience reminded us of a customer we met approximately two years ago. She informed us that her son had been suffering from cradle cap for several years. She had tried various soaps without success, and her son was already 16 years old at that time. I decided to conduct some research, and I discovered that coconut oil is known to be beneficial for this condition. As a result, I created a coconut soap. We used it to wash Zander’s scalp daily, and surprisingly, the condition showed improvement within a week and completely disappeared after three weeks. We were astonished and delighted that we had finally found a solution. However, it’s important to note that coconut soap may not be suitable for everyone, as it can cause dryness, especially for those with sensitive skin. While I personally avoid using it due to its drying effect on my skin, I have found an alternative use for it as a laundry detergent.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Please be informed that none of our products are currently undergoing laboratory testing, and I make no claims regarding their ability to cure any medical conditions. However, many individuals have found them to be beneficial. My intention is to educate my customers, particularly those with sensitive skin or those purchasing for their loved ones, on what to consider and how to interpret product labels when selecting skincare products.
