Today we’d like to introduce you to Troy Dunn.
Hi Troy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story started 15 years ago when I decided to leave my agency and start my own insurance business. The goal was to focus on the community and the things I like to get involved with. My theory was that being involved with the City, Chamber and school district would allow me to do the things important to me and I did not know the impact that would have on my business. Within a few years, my wife, Kristy, joined me and got her insurance license. Then things just continued to grow. We have four licensed agents and four unlicensed service associates to help all our customers. This is something I could not have imagined 15 years ago.
In 2018 I was asked to serve on the Board of Directors for the North Tarrant Chamber. In 2024, I served as Chairman. Within that time, Kristy and I continued to serve on boards for the City of Haltom City. In 2021, I was asked to serve on the Board for the Birdville Education Foundation and now serve on the finance committee. I have also served on last two Birdville ISD Bond committees. Troy Dunn Insurance has been blessed enough to have given annual scholarships to Haltom High Avid students the past 7 years. In 2022, I joined Lions Club and serve as the Tail Twister. Just this year, I helped organize and charter the Birdville Rotary and serve as treasurer.
Then, in 2024, I was asked to run for City Council in Haltom City. The true blessing is being elected to serve and was just re-elected in 2026 for my second term as Place 5. I now serve as Deputy Mayor Pro-Tem as well and am so honored to represent the citizens and the city of Haltom City.
Being involved in so many things, I often get asked how I am able to do it. The main answer I have always given is following Gods guidance. I truly believe that is where true success happens when you follow Gods will for your life. One of the speeches I give to students and Chambers members is called Team Game. Any success I have had or will have is all about my team. My family at home, my work family at Troy Dunn Insurance, my Council family for Haltom City, my Chamber family with the North Tarrant Chamber and my Church family. I am surrounded by the most amazing people that God has put in my life. I stop often and make sure I let my team know how much I appreciate them. A little note or a text just to let them know how much they are appreciated.
I am so grateful for the opportunities I have been given to serve my community. Being a father and papaw, I have tried to show my children how important it is to follow Gods will and serve the community. There is nothing worse than the ones who always complain, but never do anything to help find the solution. Be a part of the solution. Be a part of the team always working together to succeed.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
With the economy up and down over the years, it has been a struggle at times. Insurance markets, citizen priorities and family goals are always up and down and change and adjust. The way I have approached it is to step back and have a balanced attack. Always look for long term solutions while adjusting for the immediate need.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are independent agents, specializing in finding the best value on auto, home, renters, travel trailer, RV, motorcycle and small business insurance. We are agents for Progressive, Liberty Mutual, Travelers, Mercury, Allstate, National General, Foremost, Bristol West, and about 30 other companies. Our focus is community first. We prioritize helping any way we can and making sure everyone in our community has the correct coverage they need. We are proud that we try and educate our clients and help them understand exactly what coverages they have and when to use that coverage.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I grew up in Haltom City. I am a 1992 graduate of Haltom High. Growing up I played pee-wee football in Haltom City, basketball at the Rec Center and baseball at NEO. In high school, I played on the Varsity golf team starting my sophomore year.
I look back and understand why my teachers and coaches were frustrated with me. I liked to talk and comment way too much. Always trying to make everyone laugh was my main goal.
