Community Highlights: Meet Unique Connor of Unique Business Connection in Sports Foundation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Unique Connor.

Hi Unique, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I created UBC Sports Foundation based on personal experiences as a student-athlete. There was so much information I did not know during the recruitment process, nor did my coaches or parents know. After graduating undergrad with my B.S in Sport Management I created my own business plan that would help high school student-athletes understand the recruitment process but also understand the importance of academics, character, sportsmanship, and leadership. I wanted to create a business that helps athletes develop into the best person they can be academically, athletically, and personally.

After creating my business plan, I sent it to my mentor to overlook. Once approved I filled my business as a non-profit organization and 501 c3 status. After obtaining my status I started to develop my brand, network, and reach out to people in sports, sport organizations, and schools.

It was very hard at first but by staying consistent and believing in my business I started to make connections, sign contracts as well as expand my services to tournament management, and business development, and partake in speaking engagements. I have school districts interested in my products and services as well as high-ranked sports organizations.

I believe that every kid has a chance at being the best they can be, they just need the resources to do so, which is why I am here. Sports play a vital role in life; it teaches you discipline mentally and physically. If applied the correct way to the day-to-day lifestyle one will be unstoppable in whatever they want to do, like I am.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been many challenges. One of the main struggles I’ve had was staying consistent and being interactive/social.

Time management was another struggle. I am a single mom, I still work a 9-5, I was in school finishing my Master’s, and on top of that had to find time for my business. So, at times I would put my business on hold.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Unique Business Connection in Sports Foundation?
Unique Business Connection in Sports Foundation DBA UBC Sports Foundation is committed to ensuring a first-class student-athlete development experience. We are in the business of changing and shaping lives. We aim to inspire life-long development through a universal focus on academic development, athletic development, career development, leadership development, and a commitment to community outreach.

We create a foundation for success by connecting student-athletes with the resources and guidance needed to become developed student-athlete academically and athletically. We assist inner city athletes and sports organizations with the proper knowledge and support to become the best they can be. We provide seminars, clinics, scholarships, and funding to give inner-city athletes the experience and confidence needed to make it to the collegiate level and beyond.

The thing that sets us apart from others is that we do not focus on one area for development.

Brand-wise, the thing I am most proud of is the Athlete Development Journal I created. Dallas ISD has approved my RFP so it will be in the hands of many student-athletes soon.

I would like the readers to know that UBC Sports Foundation has products and services that will change the academic-athletic world. not only do we assist with the overall development but we help students get into college, and we give out scholarships. We actually care about the future of the youth.

The top product is our athlete development journal for grades 8-12. We provide development courses, clinics, and seminars.

What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are to get my products and services into all school districts as well as all charter schools. I plan on creating an online academy and adding another service for youth organizations like AAU for all ages. I’m looking forward to the future! I know that everything I want will come to fruition.
