Today we’d like to introduce you to Vicelia Tinde Roberts.
Hi Vicelia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m known In the barber industry as Mrs. V the CEO of Clutch Barber Supply. I started my business over 9 years ago with a $500 investment.
I literally loaded product in my Tahoe and started going to barbershops.
I introduced myself and told them that I sold barber supplies. After 5 years of continuous growth, my husband and I opened our first store in Grand Prairie, Texas. We now have 3 trucks & a store in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and my oldest son Gregory has a truck for the Houston Texas area.
So with my family we have built a 7 figure business,
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In the beginning stages it was difficult because I didn’t have capital and there was a lady named Ms. Janene whom had been supplying the market for 30 years.
What I did was continue to invest my profits back into the business and showed up every week. Some of my clients can set their schedule by me because they know on Wednesday @3pm Mrs. V will be at Elco’s in Mansfield and so on.
The barbers show up for me by supporting my business so I continue to show up for them by supplying them with the supplies they need.
We’ve been impressed with Clutch Barber Supply , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are the first full service barber supplier in the DFW. Most are beauty supply stores with a Barber section. Clutch is strictly a Barber Supply. We don’t sell beauty nor hair. We sell every tool of the trade for barbers, from barber chairs to clippers, oil sheen etc. We have what you want when you need it.
With our delivery service, barbers now depend on us to bring them what
they need. Many come to the store because they feel like a kid in a candy store.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
The biggest risk I took was investing in the store. Sometimes when you use all your funds to execute your plan it’s scary. My husband supported me not with just words of encouragement but with over 5 figures of investment dollars.
We are not big risk takers, well at least he’s not 😊 but we had proven our business for 5 years before we opened the store. I think you need a foundation and a blue print before you just throw money out there,
