As she grew, she endured a severe case of undiagnosed asthma that led to multiple hospitalizations due to intense asthma attacks.
In preschool, Amani experienced a serious medical condition that went undiagnosed, ultimately requiring a bilateral hip effusion procedure. This temporarily hindered her mobility, leaving her unable to walk for over a month and requiring her to relearn how to walk with strength and confidence.
The challenges extended beyond her health. In an industry that often favors a narrow standard of appearance, Amani’s southern accent, distinctive gap tooth, and natural blown-out hair set her apart in ways that were not always embraced.
