Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Reyes.
Hi Anthony , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It all started randomly being in Austin and getting on stage at a comedy show. From that moment I knew I wanted to do comedy.
Like any industry, you have to put in the work. Instead of begging to be seen, I decided to put in the work! So I worked my way from open mics to showcases, then eventually production, sponsorships, and Netflix is a joke fest. It was no easy path by any means, but I was blessed to meet great individuals who guided me along the way. Ive also met some not so great people who gave me great lessons in this business.
Now im a feature on a tour next month traveling America. After that , I start on my own little tour headlining California and Montana! The future is bright, and only being 2 and a half years since I randomly got on stage I can NOT wait to see the next 5 or 10 years!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. Grinding by myself was hard, but relying on people was a lot harder.
It was also a battle with my community not understanding that I wanted to collaborate not compete. After time I believe people saw the good I was doing; not only with comedy but with my charity work in the community.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I worked in the steel industry until covid happened , and then I was pushed into the service industry as a bartender. While bartending, I elevated my craft and talent. I then earned a sponsorship from Diagio to compete in their world class bartending competition. That competition is what lead me to Austin and eventually in your interview chair !
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Hard-working, I treat people the way I want to be treated and ultimately I thrive when my back is against the wall. I have the whole world ahead of me! as long as I stay poor, Success will keep coming!
