Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany.
Hi Brittany, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always had a love for miniature dachshunds. I got my first dachshund when I was 18 years old. My best friend in college her mom bred Bernese Mountain Dogs and it always interested me the world of dog shows and dog breeding but I didn’t know much. So I slowly began educating myself on the breed I already loved and reading books and taking online courses. In 2019 I got my first breeding female, Emmy. She was a smooth red. Shortly after Emmy’s arrival I began my search for other dogs I wanted to bring into my breeding program. Since my first dachshund in 2009, I have grown and learned so much about my breed. I am a member of the Dallas-Fort Worth Dachshund Club. I am a committee member for our field trials and my dogs currently compete is field trials, earth dog, scentwork and AKC conformation dog shows. It’s been really amazing to watch my dogs achieve so much with my guidance.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s never been a smooth road, dog breeding is very tough. It comes with a lot of risk and a lot of reward. We often have to make very heartbreaking decisions. There has been times where we had to place dogs in homes cause they just didn’t work out whether they didn’t thrive in a pack environment or they weren’t fitting the direction we were headed. We’ve had to make heartbreaking medical choices for puppies that failed to thrive or lost puppies in birth or shortly after. Things that truly weigh on your heart.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Preservation miniature dachshund breeder, purposely bred dogs. I am most proud of the direction and success of my dogs and how enriched their lives are.
What makes you happy?
My dogs truly make me so happy and getting to spend every day with them.
