Today we’d like to introduce you to Elijah Thomas.
Hi Elijah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Everything started for me in the year of 2020. I had took the skills that I honed from teaching myself how to make beats and decided to start making my own music. By 2022 I had my first EP released titled “Letters To My Past” and had performed at open mics and curated shows across Texas. At the end of the 2022, I had combined my two artistic passion, film and music, changed my name from Elijah.J to PLAE, and reintroduced myself, my “movie” to the world. Now, I have directed 3 music videos and I am releasing my first album this year.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been a smooth road actually. Every part of this road, speed bumps, lanes, barriers, etc. has refined me from being rough and raw to becoming polished and smooth. In the moment of experience, the struggles seem to be overbearing or an inconvenience. Ironically, my mindset alchemizes that “negative” into a positive. I found out that music has been my muse and my medicine through every condition that life has shown me.
I can never lose.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
To put official titles on myself, I am recording artist and producer in the world of music. In the world of film, I am an editor, director and producer.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Keep going. You have no reason to quit. One thing I’ve noticed is the correlation between self belief and success. The moment you doubt yourself, you’re losing. Success is a repeated act and it requires you to show up countlessly.
Although it may be insensitive, it is the truth. If you have a plan B, you’ve already failed.
Luckily, you can always try again. Failing means your current plan isn’t working for a certain goal that you have. Quitting means you stopped trying to achieve that goal entirely.
