Conversations with Henry Arthur Jens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Henry Arthur Jens.

Hi Henry , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started plein air painting full time three years ago.. I found my passion later in life. Fortunately people have gravitated towards my work. I have gotten the opportunity to indulge my love of creating and being outside in one of the most exciting cities in the world. I love the sites and sounds that I get to experience everyday. I hope that I am able to capture a moment of time in this fascinating city!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s never a smooth road. There are always struggles, but it matters how you frame them. I prefer to take things that get in my way as a challenge to be overcome. While I may not always feel the things are going well it is important to push ahead and keep moving forward. This is how you get positive results.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am know for painting on the streets of NYC. I was a NYC Firefighter and know NYC on a very intimate level. I think that helps me navigate NYC and the people that walk its streets everyday. I have found that they are some of the nicest and most interesting people you can run across. I love being outside and getting to talk to people as I paint.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Fortune has smiled upon me. One of the first paintings that I did was of the Chelsea Hotel. This turned out to be very fortunate, and led to interest in what I was doing. And led to many commissions.
