Conversations with Idania Hernández

Today we’d like to introduce you to Idania Hernández.

Hi Idania, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Born in Cienfuegos, Cuba, Idania Hernandez began her musical career at just five years old. Trained in Cuba’s prestigious music education system, she graduated in vocal performance, percussion, and flute, while also earning a degree in Social Communication from the University of Cienfuegos.

Throughout her career, she has received national singing awards and international recognition in percussion. Since arriving in Dallas, Texas, in 2016, she has continued expanding her artistic path, performing at festivals and major events, serving as a judge for the Gran Plaza Star Singing Competition in Fort Worth, and founding her own band, Idania y Su Candela Latin All Stars.

Today, she combines her passion for performance with music education, inspiring children, youth, and adults while continuing to share the vibrant energy of Latin music across the United States

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been an easy journey, because in music you always face many obstacles—especially when you move to another country. It means starting over, adapting to new ways of working, and constantly reinventing yourself.

You have to create a show that truly stands out, something versatile and highly professional, so that people feel confident hiring you and trusting your performance.

On top of that, there’s the language barrier. You also have to learn English and fully integrate yourself into a completely new environment and industry.

But every step of the way has shaped me, and it has made my artistry stronger, more versatile, and more determined.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I consider myself an artist who is constantly learning, growing, and pushing myself to be better every single day. I’ve been in this country for 10 years, and I’ve never stopped doing music. I was able to build my own business, Idania’s Music Company LLC, and today I live from my art, which makes me very proud.

I’m also proud to be living in a country where I was not born, but that has welcomed me as one of its own. I am now a U.S. citizen, and I feel grateful to have made my dream a reality here—being able to live from music.

I’m very demanding with myself, always striving for excellence. I play more than 20 different musical instruments, and people know me for performing all over Dallas and Texas for the past decade.

What sets me apart is my perseverance, my work ethic, and my positive mindset. I always say yes to opportunities and I love to work. My show is very unique—I can sing and play instruments, and when I’m on stage, I feel a powerful energy that transforms me. It’s like another version of myself comes alive through music.

That’s what I believe people connect with: the authenticity and passion I bring every time I perform.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The lesson I’ve learned throughout my journey over the years is that you must always stay in constant growth. Every performance should be your best, always pushing yourself and holding yourself to high standards, while still staying true to who you are.

You have to believe in what you truly want, fight for it, and go after it. You can’t give up or get tired—you have to keep going. Because that’s where the real essence of life and success is found: in persistence, in believing in yourself, and in pursuing what you know is worth it and what you are capable of achieving.
