Hi Kaylon , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I always loved creative writing in high school but never thought to make a career out of it. Fast forward years later, after finishing my professional basketball career in Europe, I was inspired to write a book about my nephew cause I saw he didn’t have many characters on his shelves that looked like him. Originally the story was suppose to be reserved for him, but I shared the manuscript with a friend and she wanted a copy for her boys, so that’s when I decided to release it for everyone! That’s how KLX Online Bookstore was born
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all, this was my first time ever publishing a book, let alone SELF publishing. So there was a LOT to learn, but like anything new it took/takes time.
Of course I went through some doubtful moments, feeling like if this is something I should be doing as a business. Then managing some stress along the way.
Lastly, getting over a couple fears like a fear of failing and fear or putting your work out to the world, God most definelty has been making sure things fall exactly where they are supposed to be.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Outside of writing books for kiddos, I throughly enjoy reading myself. I currently have a goal to read 50 books this year and I am right on track! Feel free to follow me on GoodReads (Kaylon Williams) to get some recommendations. As a former professional women’s basketball player, I enjoy keeping up with the WNBA, Euroleague/Eurocup leagues. With friends still actively playing, I am cheering in person or from a far. So proud of the progress that’s been made in women’s sports. While getting the blessing to add my own journey to the story. Lastly, I’m an active foodie! Love trying new restaurants in my city or traveling to eat. Always open to getting good food recommendations, the more whole in the way or hidden gem the better! A great way people can work, collaborate or support me, is honestly tell someone about my books or mention me as an author. I’m always looking for ways to get in spaces where I can read and push literacy, so where it’s a recommendation to a school, library, festival, learning center, etc. That helps me push forward in my reading goals.
Another is following social media pages, sharing content, engaging with the posts and showing up to events, it means more than you know and helps tremendously.
