Conversations with Lexi Wilkinson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexi Wilkinson.

Hi Lexi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up drawing and doodling every chance I could get. As I got older, I explored other paths that interested me, but something still didn’t feel quite right. That all changed when I landed my apprenticeship at Folklore Tattoo Company in Dallas, Texas.

I apprenticed under Billy Weigler and Tiffer Wright for two years, and I’m incredibly grateful to have learned from two such talented artists. I can’t give them enough credit for helping shape me into the artist I am today.

Now, I have the opportunity to do what I love and create art that people carry with them forever. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing someone leave the shop happy, not only with their tattoo, but with the experience they had with me and the shop as a whole. One of my favorite parts of tattooing is the relationships I’ve built with my clients over the years. Tattooing has introduced me to an amazing community and lifelong friendships I never thought I’d have, and I can’t imagine doing anything else.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wouldn’t say there were any major obstacles, but there were definitely sacrifices, and every one of them was worth it. During my apprenticeship, I spent long hours at the shop learning, watching, and constantly pushing myself to improve. It took a lot of time and dedication, but that experience built the foundation for where I am today. Now, I have the freedom to create my own schedule, work with amazing clients, and tattoo some of the coolest designs.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a tattoo artist and I specialize in neo-traditional and anime tattoos with bold lines, vibrant colors, and strong contrast. I’d say I’m best known for my bright, saturated color work. One of the biggest compliments I receive is when clients tell me they chose me because my tattoos stood out to them on Instagram. Hearing that my work is recognizable and leaves a lasting impression is incredibly rewarding. I’m most proud of creating tattoos that are not only bright and colorful, but that my clients are excited to wear for the rest of their lives. I think what sets me apart is my passion for color, my attention to detail, and the experience I strive to give every person who sits in my chair.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice for anyone just starting out is to never give up. Tattooing takes time, patience, and a lot of practice, but every hour you put into it pays off. The long days and late nights are worth it when you get to make a career out of doing what you love and creating art that people will carry with them for a lifetime.
