Today we’d like to introduce you to Luis Silva.
Hi Luis, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started growing up with a family of restauranteurs on my father’s side. I spent numerous summers in my dad’s restaurant. I grew up loving and absorbing as much as I could about food. I always been fascinated by the culture, history and skills involved. I graduated college and started my career in hospitality. For the past 5 years or so, I have been dedicating my free time to exploring, documenting and sharing my encounters with food. I have been Vlogging and posting on social media as my canvas and medium of choice.
I have worked hard to improve my photography, voice overs and food writing in the captions. It was a very slow climb to reach over 10k followers on two major social media platforms. Luckily, I have had content go viral, made friends and networked to be in the position to help others.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Along the way, I have struggled to stand out and grow within social media. There are a lot of policing of free speech. There is a lot of competition out there. I have never wanted to win anything or beat anyone. I have always just want to share what brings me joy and help others while doing it.
Recently, I suffered a lost of one of my main social media accounts. The loss feels like coming home to find nothing but ash and rubble left of your home. The worst part was that systems not humans – judged, suspended and deleted my account as if I had zero ownership as the author, artist and creator. I have no clue why this has happened after years of doing the same. All I can do is hold myself together and move on. I continue to do the most good that I can.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in highlighting and featuring both the food and the people behind it. I only post positivity. I visit and document various eateries, events and experiences. I share my thoughts, what I learned and the photos and videos I take. I research before and after each visit. If for some reason I can not recommend a place, I just don’t post about them at all. I give constructive feedback when ever I am asked for it. I offer myself as resource if there is anything I can do to help. I love my content, the connections I’ve made and everything I have learned. I dream of being a full time nonprofit that supports small businesses and the people in my community. There are a few things that set me apart. My content is not entertainment. I do not do it for money, likes or fame. I am fully transparent and 100% honest. Finally, I am a professional that knows a great deal about food and hospitality. I share my expertise rather than just my opinion.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
When it comes to risk taking, I believe it wise to take risks. Through out my life, I have always pushed myself to take the leap versus playing it safe. Often facing your fears, reveals you have nothing to fear. That is not to say – you should be irresponsible or to go all in. I advise you to strategize and look before you leap.
