Conversations with Nabile Chahine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nabile Chahine.

Hi Nabile, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After getting several requests from relatives and friends to video their weddings, and all of them indicted the cost of hiring a professional videographer is the reason for asking, I realized that those who do not want to, or cannot, spend the market prices for a video of their wedding have few options available to them. So, I challenged myself to leverage my passion for photography, experience in high tech gadgets, and proficiency in using software of any kind to develop a service model that can fill the market gap for affordable videography. I succeeded in developing a service model that produces professional quality video with comprehensive coverage while keeping cost down which makes the service very affordable. In addition, the model succeeded in removing intrusiveness during filming by leveraging wireless technology to keep the videographer out of the wedding while still covering multiple angles of the event. The model has also proven to be compatible with just about any type of event. I tried the model in a relative’s wedding and it worked well. So, I decided to start my own videography business to make the service available to anyone with limited budget.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been the smoothest road. To keep prices down I must keep cost down. This includes not adding any cost from borrowing money. I built the entire business over a couple of years, funding it out of my pocket. So, that delayed the maturity of equipment of processes to desired levels. I made sure the equipment is professional and did not cut any corners there. I succeeded in reducing my cost enough through careful balancing of supporting services, such as phone service and web presence. However, the biggest challenge of all has been convincing people that a videography service at what I am charging is for real and it is not a joke or a scam.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have had a nag for creativity and the desire to innovate since I was a child. I inherited interest in photography from my Dad who loved to capture scenery and landmarks. However, I very quickly developed a passion for the challenge of capturing emotions and significance of moments in my work. As I grew up, I went into the IT profession, software engineering in particular, because of the unlimited scape for creativity and innovation. However, photography stayed a passion I always enjoy. With the advancements in affordability of video equipment, my attention started expanding into the visual story telling through video. In a way, I am finally at the point of getting to do professionally what I have always loved the most.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
First and foremost, close attention to details. I have a strong perfectionist streak in me. When I do something, I want to do it the best way it can be done. This even showed in software I developed in the IT profession. I am also blessed with being sentimental and with the ability to relate emotionally to those around me and to the meaningful moments they are living. All these combined, enhance my ability to recognize and capture the most significant moments in a celebration and then extract the best takes and angles in the video sequences I deliver. Being very tech savvy gives me an additional tool to bring my work closer to perfection.
