Today we’d like to introduce you to Pastor Ricardo Miller.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in Nassau, Bahamas, as the middle child of five siblings. As a young boy, I often found myself in trouble and made many choices that brought stress and concern to my mother and our family. However, my life changed dramatically in 1994 when I gave my life to Jesus Christ. From that moment, I became passionate about growing in my faith, studying God’s Word, and sharing the message of Christ with others.
By the age of 20, I founded Words at Work Children’s Ministry, which quickly became recognized throughout The Bahamas for its impact on young people. During that time, I pursued theological studies at Christian Life College, completed coursework in early childhood development, became a certified youth counselor, and was later licensed into ministry by my spiritual father, Apostle Raymond Wells of Living Waters Kingdom Ministry.
In 2000, I moved to the United States and have spent more than 25 years serving the Dallas–Fort Worth area. For nearly two decades, I served as a children’s pastor and national children’s ministry leader, equipping churches through camps, crusades, seminars, and leadership training.
In 2019, I transitioned into the next chapter of my journey by launching Effective Living LLC, a coaching, speaking, and consulting company. After serving 18 years on staff at Pathway of Life Church in Dallas and later being elected to the Red Oak City Council, I felt God calling me once again into a new ministry assignment.
In April 2026, I launched The Study in Red Oak, Texas—a Bible-study community committed to transforming followers into leaders and leaders into agents of change.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, the journey has not been a smooth road. One of the greatest challenges came when I made the decision to obey God and plant The Study—a vision He had placed on my heart for many years. I had faithfully served the vision of other leaders for decades, both in my home country of The Bahamas and in the church I served in Dallas. However, starting from scratch with no people, no finances, no facility, and only a word from God required tremendous faith.
The greatest challenge has been embracing the pressure of doing ministry differently. Many expected me to follow a traditional model, but God gave me a unique assignment. The Study meets in a hotel with two distinct gatherings. The 3:00 PM gathering focuses on personal development through a biblical lens, helping people apply God’s Word to everyday life. The 5:00 PM gathering focuses on leadership development, equipping believers to lead, influence, and make a difference in the environments where God has placed them.
This is the assignment the Lord has entrusted to me—to help people win personally and become impactful leaders in their homes, communities, careers, and spheres of influence. Building a team, establishing systems, raising resources, and creating something completely new has been one of the greatest challenges of my life, but I remain fully committed to the calling God has placed on my life.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What sets me apart is my genuine love for people and my unwavering commitment to helping individuals discover their God-given potential. For more than 30 years, I have served as a pastor, coach, speaker, and personal development leader with one simple mission: helping people become the best version of themselves.
Throughout my journey—from founding Words at Work Children’s Ministry in The Bahamas, to serving nearly two decades on church staff, to launching Effective Living LLC, and now establishing The Study—I have remained passionate about building people, developing leaders, and creating environments where individuals can grow and thrive.
What makes The Study unique is that our goal is not merely to provide a religious experience, but to create an encounter with God that produces personal transformation. We challenge every person who attends to embrace a growth mindset. Our belief is that if someone faithfully engages with the teachings at The Study for 52 weeks and applies the biblical principles they learn to everyday life, it will be impossible for them to remain the same.
We teach that believers are called to be lights in a dark world—representatives of God in their homes, workplaces, and communities. My assignment has always been to help people win personally so they can influence the spaces they occupy.
At The Study, our mission is clear: Rooted in Truth. Built for Growth. Called to Lead. That commitment to practical biblical teaching, leadership development, and life transformation is what sets us apart in Red Oak and throughout Ellis County.
What are your plans for the future?
My vision for the future is to establish The Study as a leadership hub within Ellis County and beyond—developing men and women who are thriving personally, spiritually, and as leaders in every area of life. For more than 30 years, much of the work I built was connected to my personal brand. Now, my focus is creating a strong team-based ministry that is not built around a personality, but around biblical principles and practical truths that transform lives.
The Study will focus on three key areas: personal development, helping individuals maximize their God-given potential; leadership development, equipping believers to influence the world for Christ; and marriage development, helping couples build healthy, God-centered relationships.
Our desire is to establish The Study in other cities throughout Texas and eventually return to The Bahamas with this model. We are committed to raising leaders who will duplicate this mission and impact communities around the world.
