Hi ReShunda, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is ReShunda Tinsley founder and owner of Twisted Strands By Ro, a brand built on resilience, faith, and a passion for healthy hair care.
My journey into entrepreneurship began during a difficult season of health challenges that made maintaining traditional employment difficult. What initially started as a way to create stability for my family quickly developed into a purpose-driven career.
After the birth of my second son, I committed to braiding full time. Growth was gradual at first, but through serving classmates, building relationships, and delivering quality work, word-of-mouth became the foundation that helped my business grow throughout the Dallas area.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I realized the true strength and sustainability of my business. Being able to continue serving clients and generating income during such an uncertain time confirmed that I had found more than a skill I had found my calling.
That realization led me to expand professionally and establish myself within a salon environment in Dallas. Following the birth of my third son, I entered a season of rest, reflection, and rebranding. During that time, I developed and launched my hair care line, Natural Hair by Twisted Strands, created to support healthy hair growth and maintenance.
Today, Twisted Strands By Ro proudly operates from Beauty For Ashes Salon in Mesquite, where faith, beauty, and community intersect. What began as a challenge has grown into a thriving business and expanding product line. My mission is not only to create beautiful styles, but to empower clients, promote healthy hair, and inspire others to pursue purpose through entrepreneurship.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not always been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges was building a consistent clientele and learning who my ideal clients were. In the beginning, growth took time, and I had to be patient while establishing trust, creating quality experiences, and building long-term relationships rather than relying on a constant rotation of one-time appointments. That season taught me consistency, adaptability, and the importance of creating a business that attracts and retains clients who align with my brand and values.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Twisted Strands By Ro, I specialize in braids, loc services, and crochet styles, with Boho Knotless Braids becoming one of my signature and most requested services. While I take pride in delivering quality styles and promoting healthy hair, what I’m most proud of is the community and relationships that have been built through my business.
Over the years, my chair has become more than a place for hair appointments it has become a safe space for women to feel seen, heard, and encouraged. I believe what truly sets me apart is the way I approach business and client care. My clients become family. Many conversations extend beyond beauty and into faith, healing, encouragement, and personal growth.
Through serving women, I’ve had the opportunity to pray with clients, build lasting relationships, invite women into community, and even witness lives transformed through faith. Twisted Strands By Ro was built to be more than a beauty brand it’s a space where healthy hair, connection, and purpose come together.
What makes you happy?
What brings me the most joy is spending quality time with the people I love and value most. As someone who pours so much into others both personally and through my business I deeply appreciate relationships that are mutual, genuine, and rooted in care and respect. I value being surrounded by people who recognize my worth, support me, and reciprocate the love, and encouragement that I give. Those meaningful connections are what keep me grounded and remind me that success is measured by more than business it’s also reflected in the quality of the relationships we build.
