Conversations with Tasman Sharp

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tasman Sharp.

Hi Tasman, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Tasman Sharp, and I’m a Texas-based singer-songwriter from New Braunfels. Music has always been a part of my life, but I started taking it seriously at a young age when I picked up a guitar and began performing on The Great American Loop while living on a boat. Growing up around the rich Texas music scene inspired me to write songs that reflect real-life experiences, relationships, and the people who have shaped my journey.

In 2021, I formed Tasman Sharp & The Ripsnorters, and since then we’ve been fortunate to perform across Texas at iconic venues and events, sharing stages with some incredible artists. One of my earliest milestones was opening for Shenandoah at just 11 years old at the Comal County Fair, which gave me the confidence to pursue music. Since then, I’ve had opportunities to perform at venues like Gruene Hall, the Austin Marathon, and Whitewater Amphitheater, as well as festivals, rodeos, and community events.

Along the way, I’ve been blessed with recognition such as nominations for Young Artist of the Year from both the Texas Country Music Association and the Josie Music Awards out of Nashville. Beyond performing, I’ve focused on songwriting and recording original music, including my debut album *A Good Life*. As I have grown, so has my style. My latest releases, “Boat on Fire” and “Hard to Heal” are more Rock with a fiddle. Through every step of the journey, my goal has remained the same: create authentic music that connects with people and leaves them a little better than I found them.

Today, I continue to write, record, and perform while building my career one song and one show at a time. I’m incredibly grateful for the support of my family, my band, and the fans who have believed in me from the beginning. This is still just the start of the story, and I’m excited to see where the road leads next.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but every challenge has helped me grow as both an artist, a person and in faith. One of the biggest challenges has been balancing music with school, sports, family commitments, and everyday life. As a young artist, I’ve had to learn how to manage my time, stay disciplined, and continue improving my craft while keeping up with other responsibilities.

Breaking into the music industry is also challenging because there are so many talented artists for so few opportunities. Early on, I had to learn how to handle rejection, stay patient, and keep moving forward even when things didn’t happen as quickly as I hoped. Every show, songwriting session, and recording project has been a learning experience.

Another challenge has been finding my own voice and identity as an artist. I’m a teenage guy so that has been fun. As I’ve grown up, my songwriting and sound have evolved, and I’ve worked hard to create music that is authentic to who I am rather than trying to fit into someone else’s mold.

At the same time, I’ve been fortunate to have incredible support from my family, bandmates, mentors, and fans. Their encouragement has helped me push through the difficult moments and stay focused on my goals. Looking back, I’m grateful for the struggles because they’ve taught me resilience, humility, and the importance of hard work. Theses qualities continue to shape both my music and my journey.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Texas Country / Southern Rock / Americana artist, singer-songwriter. Think Rock with a Fiddle. My focus is creating authentic music that tells real stories and connects with people on a personal level. I write and perform songs inspired by life experiences, relationships, Christian values, and the people and places that have shaped me. Whether I’m playing a solo acoustic show or performing with my band, my goal is always to create an experience that feels genuine and memorable.

Over the past few years, I’ve had the opportunity to perform throughout Texas at venues and events ranging from local community gatherings to iconic stages like Gruene Hall, 3rd and Lindsley, and Whitewater Amphitheater. I’ve also spent a great deal of time developing my songwriting and recording original music, including my debut album, *A Good Life*. I have also released two singles, “Boat on Fire”, and “Hard to Heal” which have gained some traction. I’m really excited about the next few songs I will be releasing soon.

What I’m most proud of isn’t any single award or performance—it’s the impact we’ve been able to make through music. Through concerts and community events, we’ve helped raise money and awareness for causes that matter, including supporting veterans and military families through Ripsnorters for Valor. Being able to use music as a platform to give back is something I value deeply.

What sets me apart is that I’ve grown up in the Texas music scene while staying true to who I am. I’m not trying to be someone else or follow the latest trend. I want my music, my performances, and the way I treat people to reflect authenticity, hard work, and gratitude. At the end of the day, I hope people remember me not only for the songs I write and perform, but for the positive impact I make on those around me. And my dance skills at Two Tons Tuesdays at Gruene Hall.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I believe the most important quality behind my early success has been perseverance. The music industry is full of ups and downs, and success rarely happens overnight. There have been plenty of times when things didn’t go as planned, but I’ve learned to keep loading in and loading out, work hard every time, and keep improving regardless of the obstacles. You never know who is watching.

Perseverance goes hand in hand with a strong work ethic. Whether it’s writing songs, rehearsing, recording, traveling to shows, or promoting music, I’ve learned that consistent effort over time creates opportunities. I’ve never been afraid to start small, sweat, play local shows, or put in the extra work required to grow as an artist.

At the same time, I think humility and gratitude have been equally important. I’ve been blessed with incredible support from my family, bandmates, mentors, and fans, and I never take that for granted. Staying grounded and remembering why I started making music in the first place helps me stay focused on the long-term journey rather than short-term success.

If there’s one thing I’d want people to take away from my story, it’s that talent is important, but perseverance, hard work, and character are what carry you through the challenges and ultimately create lasting success.
