Hi Taylor, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hazel & Olive is named after my great grandmother Hazel Olive. Grandma Hazel taught me everything about fashion and passed down her love of sewing to me! I started this business in my tiny apartment in 2012 with $300. I saved up that $300 by clipping coupons determined to make a better life for my daughter. I was determined to provide the best customer service, low pricing and great quality. We strive to have the most trendy clothes and online boutique items at prices that can’t be beat! Today we are proud to continue providing our customers with those standards and more. We are committed to giving back to organizations locally and worldwide! We currently give back by partnering with an organization called Love One as well as have a scholarship that we offer to girls who have been impacted by domestic violence a cause near and dear to my heart.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting off with $0 to my name and having to build the business from scratch with $300 was not for the faint of heart but it has been well worth it. I worked 18 hour days 7 days a week for the early years.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We are known for offering daily new arrivals and specifically catering to college girls and offering the most trendy recruitment / rush outfits. We also specialize in SEC gameday dresses. We carry a variety of brands as well as our own line that I design. Offering new arrivals daily allows us to stand out and keep something exciting being offered to our customers daily!
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Owning a business means never turning your mind off and never fully stepping away. I wouldn’t have it any other way since I love what I do.
