Today we’d like to introduce you to Teresa Stewart-Meli.
Hi Teresa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always loved piano and wanted to help people, although I’ve been unsure about how to achieve that goal until the last 10 years. I said Piano taught a bit on the Navajo nation, got a masters in conducting a doctrine and conducting had a stroke and became disabled after rehab rehabilitation. I have worked to focus on the NeuroDiverse population in my writing, studio, and ensembles.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I truly feel that no road is smooth for any individual of any substantial age. Life is hard. My health has been a challenge throughout my life and that has given me a lot of empathy as well as impetus to research and also find solutions. Music has been both therapeutic, but also my livelihood so during times of illness when it has been unattainable, it has been especially painful.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have a studio that specializes in Piano string, Voice theory and composition for all mines in Denton Texas. Initially it began for neurodivergent minds those that have ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, dyspraxia, but has evolved to incorporate twice exceptional individuals, as well as those who are physically diverse.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risktaking is a big part of my life. I am neurodivergent and have a raging case of ADHD so impulse control is a big problem for me or maybe a wonderful asset! So if I get an idea, I just kinda go for it and it usually works out.
