Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Martin.
Hi Amanda, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey into business didn’t start in a boardroom, it started beside my (then) husband, watching him build and grow a successful roofing and construction company from the ground up. His unwavering work ethic and commitment to quality made a strong impression on me. While our paths have since changed, I credit him for laying the foundation of what would become my own entrepreneurial spirit.
Early on, I took what I learned from him and combined it with my own hands-on experience in administrative and back-office roles. That mix of real-world exposure and self-taught business fundamentals led me to explore new opportunities in operations management. I began consulting for small businesses, helping them streamline their workflows and scale with intention. Over time, I found myself working with some of the most prestigious real estate teams in Southlake, Texas, as well as a high-performing commercial real estate team in the Keller and Fort Worth areas.
These experiences helped shape me into a well-rounded operations leader. I learned how to work with people from every walk of life, different industries, backgrounds, and skill sets. No matter someone’s title or experience level, I’ve always made it a point to treat everyone with the same respect and integrity. That approach has not only strengthened my relationships, but also helped me grow into the leader I am today.
Currently, I’m proud to serve in an operations role at The SGD Group. It’s a place where growth is encouraged, teamwork is authentic, and the culture doesn’t feel like “just work.” I’m fortunate to work alongside exceptional CEOs and managers who lead with vision and integrity. Every day presents a new opportunity to learn, lead, and grow and I share in the same passion that drives our entire team forward.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road of life is rarely as smooth as we hope, and mine has certainly had its share of bumps. I’ve made mistakes, faced setbacks, and learned many lessons along the way. But I’m thankful for every one of them, because they’ve shaped who I am today. I wake up every day with the goal of becoming a better version of myself than I was yesterday.
Being a woman in industries that are often male-dominated has presented its challenges. But I never allowed that to be an excuse or a crutch. I used it as fuel to grow stronger, work harder, and lead with confidence. Not having a formal business degree has also been an obstacle at times, but my hands-on experience, work ethic, and ability to problem-solve have always helped me push forward and prove my value.
There have been times I’ve been knocked down, both personally and professionally. But every time, I’ve looked up and thanked the Lord for giving me the strength to get back up. Faith, resilience, and a relentless desire to grow have carried me through every season of this journey.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Currently, I serve as the Executive Operations Manager for The SGD Group, a multi-company brand with a strong focus on both residential and commercial garage door services in Texas and Minnesota. One of our key ventures is SGD Springs, where we manufacture and wholesale high-quality garage door springs. Being a part of this growing, hands-on company has been an incredible experience.
What I love most about my work is the leadership team I’m surrounded by. Our CEOs are visionaries, growth-minded, resourceful, and committed to finding a way forward no matter the challenge. They truly value the people they work with, and that energy creates a culture where everyone is motivated to bring their best every day.
Personally, I strive to be the best version of myself, not just for my team, but for my son, who is my greatest inspiration. I want to show him that with faith, hard work, and perseverance, anything is possible. Even when life feels tough, pushing forward with a positive mindset and trusting in the Lord has helped me exceed expectations time and time again.
One of the things I’m most proud of and what I believe sets me apart is my natural ability to connect with people. I don’t force it, it just happens. Whether I’m leading a team or navigating a high-pressure situation, I have a way of making people feel at ease. My confidence and calm presence help build trust quickly, which is key in both operations and leadership.
I’m incredibly grateful for this gift because it has allowed me to lead effectively, support others, and contribute to a positive work environment where people feel seen, heard, and empowered.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
As long as people have homes or businesses with garage doors, there will always be a demand for garage door services. It’s a foundational industry that isn’t going anywhere. If we continue building on the momentum and growth we’ve already seen, I believe our service side will expand exponentially throughout the metroplexes we currently serve and possibly even on a national scale in the near future.
On the manufacturing side, SGD Springs is still the small fish in a big pond, but we’re swimming fast. The company was born out of necessity during the COVID era, when supply chains were strained and smaller garage door companies couldn’t get the springs they needed. Our CEOs saw the gap and stepped in to fill it, and that decision gave life to SGD Springs.
In just a few short years, we’ve grown rapidly, are making waves and, yes, ruffling a few feathers in the industry. But what sets us apart is our unwavering commitment to our customers, no matter how big or small their businesses are. That’s the heart of who we are.
Looking ahead, I see SGD Group reaching incredible heights in this industry. I believe we’ll surprise many of our competitors with just how far we’ve come and where we’re headed. I’m incredibly proud and blessed to be a part of The SGD Group, and I’m excited to be on this journey as we continue to grow and redefine what’s possible in our space.
