Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Walker.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey started in nursing. I became a Registered Nurse because I genuinely wanted to help people, and for nearly a decade I dedicated myself to doing exactly that. Throughout my career, I worked in a variety of roles, including bedside nursing, travel nursing during the COVID-19 pandemic, and nursing leadership. While nursing was incredibly rewarding, it was also one of the most demanding experiences of my life.
Like many nurses, I spent years prioritizing everyone else’s needs above my own. Nursing taught me how to care for patients, advocate for families, and support my team, but somewhere along the way, I stopped checking in with myself. The long shifts, emotional demands, and constant pressure eventually led to burnout. I realized that I had built my entire identity around being a nurse and had neglected my own goals, wellness, and personal growth outside of work.
That realization led me to make a career transition into healthcare technology. Moving into health tech gave me something I hadn’t experienced in years: balance. It allowed me to continue serving the healthcare industry while also creating space to rediscover myself outside of my profession. I began pursuing personal goals, exploring entrepreneurship, and asking myself an important question: What would happen if nurses prioritized themselves with the same dedication they give to everyone else?
That question became the foundation for Seven2Seven.
I created Seven2Seven as a wellness brand designed by a nurse, for nurses. The name comes from the typical nursing schedule—7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.—but it also represents something deeper. While nurses spend twelve hours caring for others, the “other” seven-to-seven of their lives matters too. We are daughters, sons, parents, partners, business owners, students, and dreamers. We deserve to nurture those parts of ourselves as well.
Our flagship product, the Seven2Seven Nurse Wellness Planner, was created to help nurses prioritize self-care, goal setting, reflection, and intentional living. More than a planner, it’s a reminder that nurses are more than their job titles. My mission is to help nurses build fulfilling lives both inside and outside of healthcare and to create a community where wellness isn’t an afterthought—it’s a priority.
Today, I continue working in health tech while growing Seven2Seven, combining my passion for healthcare, innovation, and entrepreneurship. What started as my personal journey through burnout and self-discovery has become a mission to help other nurses put themselves first without guilt.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but I think that’s what has made the journey so meaningful.
One of my biggest challenges was recognizing and admitting that I was burned out. Nursing had been such a large part of my identity for so many years that the idea of stepping away from the bedside felt like failure at first. I had spent years caring for others, and I wasn’t sure what it looked like to prioritize myself without feeling guilty.
Transitioning into healthcare technology was a leap of faith. While it gave me a healthier work-life balance, it also forced me to rediscover who I was outside of nursing. That process was both exciting and uncomfortable.
Starting Seven2Seven brought an entirely new set of challenges. I had experience in healthcare, but I had never launched a product-based business before. Everything from product development and website design to marketing, inventory management, and content creation was new to me. I’ve had to learn as I go, often through trial and error.
One of the hardest lessons has been learning that passion alone doesn’t automatically translate into sales. There have been moments where I’ve questioned whether anyone needed what I was creating. In fact, recently I found myself feeling discouraged because sales weren’t where I hoped they would be. As entrepreneurs, we often see people’s highlight reels online, but we don’t always see the moments of doubt behind the scenes.
What keeps me going is remembering why I started. Every time a nurse tells me they feel seen by the brand, connects with the message, or shares how the planner has helped them prioritize themselves, it reminds me that the mission is bigger than a sales number.
I’ve learned that entrepreneurship requires resilience, patience, and a willingness to keep showing up even when the results aren’t immediate. Building Seven2Seven has taught me just as much about personal growth as it has about business, and I believe those challenges have ultimately made me a stronger founder.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At my core, I am a nurse, and everything I do is rooted in improving the lives of healthcare professionals.
Professionally, I work in healthcare technology, where I help healthcare organizations adopt innovative solutions that improve clinical workflows and ultimately support better patient care. My nursing background allows me to understand the real-world challenges clinicians face and translate those experiences into meaningful conversations about technology and process improvement.
Outside of my corporate career, I am the founder of Seven2Seven, a nurse wellness brand focused on helping nurses prioritize self-care, personal growth, and intentional living. Through our products, content, and community, I strive to remind nurses that they are more than their job titles and deserve to invest in themselves with the same compassion they give to others.
What I specialize in is connecting worlds that don’t always seem connected. I bring together nursing, technology, entrepreneurship, and wellness in a way that feels relatable and practical. Whether I’m speaking to nurses about career opportunities beyond the bedside, helping healthcare leaders solve challenges through technology, or encouraging nurses to prioritize their own wellbeing, my goal is always the same: to create positive impact.
What I’m most proud of is having the courage to reinvent myself. Leaving the bedside was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made because nursing was such a large part of my identity. Since then, I’ve built a career in healthcare technology, launched a business from the ground up, and created a platform that allows me to advocate for nurse wellness in a completely different way.
I believe what sets me apart is that I truly understand the nurse experience because I’ve lived it. Every product, piece of content, and conversation comes from genuine experience rather than theory. I’ve experienced the burnout, the self-doubt, the career transitions, and the pressure that so many nurses feel. Because of that, my mission isn’t simply to sell a product—it’s to help nurses build lives that feel fulfilling both inside and outside of their profession.
If Seven2Seven stands for anything, it’s the belief that nurses deserve to prioritize themselves too.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that networking is less about collecting contacts and more about building genuine relationships.
Throughout my career, I’ve attended conferences, networking events, and industry meetups, but some of the most valuable opportunities I’ve received actually came from simply reaching out to people and starting conversations. I’ve connected with professionals through LinkedIn, social media, and mutual connections, often with no expectation other than learning from their experiences.
My advice is to be proactive and don’t be afraid to introduce yourself. So many people hesitate to reach out because they’re worried about bothering someone or being told no. In reality, most professionals are happy to share their knowledge when approached with genuine curiosity and respect.
When it comes to finding mentors, I’ve found that mentorship doesn’t always come from one person. Throughout different stages of my career, I’ve had multiple mentors who each helped me in different ways. Some helped me grow as a nurse, others helped me transition into healthcare technology, and others have provided guidance as I’ve built Seven2Seven. I believe it’s important to seek mentorship based on where you’re trying to grow rather than searching for one person to have all the answers.
What has worked best for me is focusing on giving value before asking for anything in return. Whether that’s supporting someone’s work, sharing a helpful resource, making an introduction, or simply showing genuine interest in their journey, relationships are strongest when they are built on mutual support.
I’ve also learned that some of the best networking happens in unexpected places. A conversation at a conference, a LinkedIn message, or even an interaction on social media can lead to opportunities you never anticipated. Many of the opportunities I’ve pursued in healthcare technology, entrepreneurship, and content creation started with a simple conversation.
My biggest advice is to start before you feel ready. Reach out to the person you admire. Attend the event. Send the message. You never know which conversation might change the trajectory of your career.
