Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelia Long.
Hi Angelia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been drawn to creating things that make people feel something. Long before I thought of myself as an entrepreneur, I was the kid constantly immersed in art, storytelling, aesthetics, and visual expression. That eventually led me to earn my BFA in Studio Art Photography and Multimedia Management from the University of North Texas and build a career in photography and creative direction.
Over the years, my work evolved far beyond just taking photos. I became fascinated by the full experience behind a brand — the emotion, styling, atmosphere, presentation, and the way creativity can shape how people see themselves. That mindset opened the door to modeling, creative directing, branding, and eventually entrepreneurship in multiple forms. Along the way, I also began creatively directing for other brands and businesses, helping bring their visual identity and concepts to life in a way that feels intentional and emotionally resonant.
Today, I work professionally in photography while also building my own creative ventures, including my bakery and lifestyle concepts. At first glance, photography, baking, fashion, and branding may seem unrelated, but to me they all stem from the same place: creating intentional experiences that connect with people emotionally. Whether I’m directing a photoshoot, developing a brand concept, or making pastries from scratch at 2 a.m., I approach everything with the same level of artistry, care, and attention to detail.
The journey definitely hasn’t been linear. Like most entrepreneurs, I’ve had to learn through trial and error, wear a hundred different hats, and figure things out in real time. But I think that’s also what shaped my perspective — I’ve learned that creativity becomes really powerful when you stop trying to fit yourself into one category and instead build a life and career that fully reflect who you are.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not — and I think one of the biggest misconceptions people have about entrepreneurship is that it’s supposed to look linear or polished while you’re living through it. Most of the time, you’re building while simultaneously learning, adapting, and trying to stay financially and emotionally afloat.
One of the biggest struggles for me has been balancing creativity with sustainability. When you’re a creative entrepreneur, especially someone working across multiple industries, people often see the final product but not the amount of labor, risk, time, and mental energy behind it. There have been periods where I was juggling long workdays, freelance projects, brand development, and late nights building personal ventures all at once. Burnout is very real when your mind never really “clocks out.”
Another challenge has been learning how to confidently take up space as a multidisciplinary creative. Early on, I felt pressure to pick one lane and stay there because that’s what people understand most easily. But I realized that limiting myself to one title didn’t reflect who I actually am as an artist or entrepreneur. Photography led into creative direction, branding, modeling, design, and eventually baking and hospitality concepts — and I had to learn to trust that all of those things could coexist and strengthen each other instead of compete.
I’ve also learned a lot about resilience. Entrepreneurship forces you to become adaptable very quickly. There are moments where things don’t go according to plan, opportunities fall through, finances feel uncertain, or you question whether you’re capable of building what you envision. But I think those moments also teach you discipline, problem-solving, and self-belief in a way nothing else really can.
Looking back, I wouldn’t call it a smooth road, but I do think every challenge helped shape the perspective and work ethic I have now.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a multidisciplinary creative and entrepreneur working across photography, creative direction, branding, modeling, and culinary arts. At the core of everything I do is storytelling and experience-building. No matter the medium, I’m interested in creating work that feels intentional, immersive, emotionally resonant, and visually impactful.
Professionally, I work in photography and creative direction, specializing in conceptual portraiture, branding, editorial-inspired imagery, and emotionally driven visual experiences. I also creatively direct for brands and businesses, helping shape everything from campaign concepts and visual identity to styling, atmosphere, and overall presentation. I’ve always been fascinated by the psychology behind aesthetics — how visual storytelling can influence emotion, confidence, memory, and connection.
Outside of photography, I’m also building creative ventures in the culinary and lifestyle space, including my bakery brand, Bakery 99. What started as a personal creative outlet quickly became another extension of the same philosophy I bring to photography: craftsmanship, intentionality, and creating experiences people genuinely connect with. Even with baking, I approach it artistically — from recipe development and presentation to branding and customer experience.
What I’m most proud of is building a career that genuinely reflects who I am instead of forcing myself into one category. I think a lot of creatives feel pressure to simplify themselves to be taken seriously, but I’ve learned that some of the most meaningful work happens when you allow all of your interests and disciplines to inform one another rather than compete. Every creative pursuit I’ve explored has strengthened another.
I’d say what sets me apart is my ability to merge artistry with atmosphere and emotional connection. I don’t just focus on making things look beautiful — I focus on making people feel something. Whether I’m directing a photoshoot, building a brand identity, designing an experience, or creating something by hand, I care deeply about intention, detail, and creating work that leaves a lasting impression.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
Absolutely. I don’t think entrepreneurship or creativity happens in isolation, and I’m incredibly grateful for the people who have supported me throughout my journey.
First and foremost, my family deserves a lot of credit — especially my father. He was the first person to really introduce me to art and creativity in a meaningful way, and he collected my first true painting. My family always encouraged me to pursue a creative path, even when it wasn’t the most traditional or predictable route. Having that support while I was still figuring things out meant everything to me.
I’m also very thankful for the mentors, creative peers, clients, and collaborators who have trusted me over the years. Working in creative industries has taught me so much through collaboration, and I’ve been lucky to work alongside people who challenged me to grow and think bigger. One of my closest friends, Makayla Young, has trusted me to creatively direct her brand, Raweletics, which has been incredibly meaningful to me.
My clients have also played a huge role in my growth. Every person who has trusted me to photograph them, support their brand, or order from my bakery has helped me continue building the career and businesses I have today.
I’d also say that the creative community in Dallas has been incredibly inspiring. Being surrounded by ambitious, artistic, and entrepreneurial people pushes you to continue evolving and reminds you that creativity can become something sustainable when it’s paired with discipline and consistency.
At the end of the day, I think success is built through community, collaboration, and the people willing to believe in your vision along the way.
