Today we’d like to introduce you to Asia Johnson.
Hi Asia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey as an entrepreneur began during a season of prayer and fasting on my final Navy deployment. After eight years of service—including surviving near-death experiences on the flight deck—I had a choice to make about my future. God made it clear that I could either stay in the military, pursue an engineering degree, or take a ‘free fall’ into the unknown table He set for me: full-time barbering.I chose faith and served as a full-time barber and stylist from November 2020 until January 2026. Within months of being in the shop, I realized the work had nothing to do with doing hair, and everything to do with the ministry behind the chair. Clients would return to tell me how our conversations inspired them to go back to school, get certified, or change their lives. I realized the chair was a space for divine exchange.I have been baking and doing hair since I was ten years old, when my grandmother taught me to cook and my cousin taught me to braid. For years, they were my side passions. But in January 2026, I took another giant leap of faith to become a full-time baker, creator, and caterer, while still caring for my long-time hair clients. Looking back, every single chapter of my life since high school has been a step of faith. It hasn’t always been easy, but trusting God’s word has brought me true riches in purpose, community, and peace.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This road has been far from smooth sailing, but my faith has kept me grounded, and I look forward to how this journey continues to unfold. Transitioning out of the military, the hardest adjustment was the sudden lack of camaraderie. It can be disheartening to see a general lack of empathy in civilian society. Life has taught me that you never truly know what someone is going through, especially mentally. If you see someone in distress—like downing shots at a bar—it is okay to step in, ask the bartender to cut them off, take their keys, or order them an Uber. Sometimes, they just need a conversation to feel seen and heard. Small gestures like that can inspire someone to continue choosing life. That is why it is so important to me that wherever I am, I add value and leave people better than I found them. It isn’t always easy, but it is absolutely worth the shot.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in memorable sweet treats. I’m especially known for the love and affection I put into all my sweet treats, especially my pound pops, banana pudding, and dessert jars. Everything I create, I make with the exact care and love I would want in my own treat: moist, velvety love and affection in every bite. Everything I offer, from the communication to the customer service, down to the last bite, is an experience of its very own with the consumer in mind. I hope they taste and feel the love in every bite. I do it for the purpose behind the experience, not so much the glitz and glam. One thing that has always been true: a fresh hairstyle, a happy stomach, and a positive word feed the soul.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
When people ask for advice on finding a traditional mentor, I often share a different perspective. I don’t necessarily believe in forcing a mentorship connection; instead, I believe deeply in alignment and energy. The vibrations and intentions you put out into the universe are exactly what you receive in return. My prayer has always been simple: “Whoever and whatever is for me, let it be drawn near so our paths may align. But if a person or thing is not meant for me, turn me away, keep us apart, or make us blind to each other.”Even when the wrong connections or unwanted scenarios cross my path, I choose to look for the lesson. I ask myself what God is trying to teach or reveal to me through that person or situation. Walking hand-in-hand with God, while relying on the Holy Spirit for discernment and clarity, has ultimately been the greatest guide and mentor of my life. For anyone seeking direction, my ultimate advice is to realize that as long as there is breath in your lungs, there is a distinct purpose on your life. It is vital to embrace it. Your contribution matters, even if your only impact today is simply making the next person feel seen.If you are trying to learn a specific life skill, do not be afraid to step into the rooms where those experienced people gather. At the end of the day, everyone puts their pants on the same way—one leg at a time, breathing the same air. Everyday spaces like barbershops, salons, and gyms are excellent places to start. From a casual conversation in a styling chair to friendly advice during a workout, everyday environments double as powerful networking hubs. You truly never know who you are sitting next to.People will always remember how you make them feel, and it never hurts to be kind. Leading with genuine integrity and allowing yourself to be guided by the Most High will always result in a deeply fruitful life. The ultimate “cheat code” in this journey is understanding that we are not here to live for ourselves alone, but to help one another. Our true legacy is measured by the impact we leave on those around us. If your last breath is taken sooner than expected, or if your ability to speak is suddenly taken away, did you help someone learn what you know? Did you teach someone how to tie a shoe, change a tire, process their emotions, or cook that famous family recipe?Do not let your accumulated knowledge, wisdom, and gifts leave this earth with you. Share them, connect deeply, and use your purpose to light the way for others.
