Daily Inspiration: Meet Bart Keijsers Koning

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bart Keijsers Koning.

Bart Keijsers Koning

Hi Bart, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I have been active in the art world for 27 years, most of that time was spent in NYC. Together with my wife, Louky Keijsers Koning, we ran LMAKgallery. At the end of its tenure, I had started to think about different cities within the states that would allow for less restrictions – from working with certain artists to create a program that is less guided by real-estate constrictions. In Dallas, I recognized the opportunity to grow the business with a foundation of collectors and artists committed to culture within the community while still standing on a global stage. About two years ago, I made the move and opened Keijsers Koning. The gallery received a very gracious welcome, and it has been a wonderful experience. During this time, Louky started her business as an art appraiser as well as director of the Estate of Barbara Hammer.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Moving to a new city, especially when there is a tight-knit community like Dallas, you’re faced with obstacles. You need to learn and understand the culture that is there, which is different from what you’re used to. I try to do this by acknowledging its character and showing courtesy towards the city. At the same time, I like to create a genuine narrative – a show me rather than an I’ll tell you attitude, which is reflected in my exhibitions. I think it is an important step towards building a longstanding relationship with the city and its inhabitants. Dallasites are curious, a quality I very much appreciate and welcome.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the owner of Keijsers Koning, an international contemporary art gallery presenting emerging and established artists. With the gallery’s program, we like to push the boundaries and create a space that allows for unconventional ideas to be expressed, explored, and enjoyed. The gallery is located in the Design District in Dallas, TX.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
