Daily Inspiration: Meet Dayna Dewitt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dayna Dewitt.

Hi Dayna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Art has always been a form of therapy and a constant source of joy throughout my life. My passion began at a very young age with constantly drawing in sketchbooks and falling in love with bright colors and bold tones.

Like many artists, it took me a long time to discover my own artistic style. But through many years of practice and learning who my work truly resonates with, I found my artistic voice. I started my art career with creating small commissioned pieces from my bedroom studio, never imagining all of the opportunities that can come from it.

Today, I’ve had the opportunity to participate in many art exhibitions, paint murals, host paint parties, and create meaningful commissioned pieces for people all over the country. Seeing others being able to relate to and find joy from my art has been the most rewarding part of this journey.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t think any entrepreneurial journey is completely smooth, especially when you’re pursuing something you’re deeply passionate about. Putting yourself out there, taking risks, and believing in your vision comes with challenges and many moments of uncertainty. There have definitely been times when I’ve questioned myself or faced obstacles, but each experience has helped me grow as both an artist and a person.

One of the greatest blessings throughout my journey has been the incredible art community here in Dallas. I’ve had the opportunity to connect with so many talented and supportive artists who continue to inspire me and push my creativity.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a mixed media artist who specializes in acrylic and oil paintings on canvas, while also creating murals and hosting paint parties. My work celebrates inner beauty, confidence, and the experiences of growing up as a black woman in America.

My pieces are often recognized for their bold colors and the beauty of natural black hair. Through every painting, I hope to create work that allows people to feel seen, represented, and empowered. My goal is to spread joy while highlighting the importance of representation and encouraging others to embrace who they are.

What I’m most proud of is the impact my art has on others. There is nothing more meaningful than hearing someone say they see themselves reflected in my work or that a piece made them feel inspired or understood. More than creating beautiful art, I strive to create meaningful connections that leave a lasting impression.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
One of the greatest sources of inspiration and guidance in my life is my faith. Spending time in prayer and reading God’s word helps me stay focused on the bigger picture and truly fuels both my personal life and my work as an artist.

Everything I create is rooted in the hope that women will see themselves reflected in my art and be reminded of their beauty and worth. I want my pieces to evoke joy, bring back cherished childhood memories, and encourage all to embrace themselves exactly as God has created them.
