Daily Inspiration: Meet Huxon Fitzer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Huxon Fitzer.

Hi Huxon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
We are the Fitzer Family: Nick, Harmony, Huxon(5)and Krew(3) we have built a life around 2 wheels, outdoor adventures, and a shared love for riding together.
Nick grew up around bikes. His dad was really into biking and was known for his wheelies, so riding was a huge part of his childhood from the very beginning. He grew up riding BMX and quickly became passionate about anything on two wheels. When Nick was 10 years old, his dad passed away, but his love for riding never stopped. In a lot of ways, bikes became a connection to him and something he carried with him through life.

Nick and I(Harmony) met in college at Texas State University and honestly, for a while I thought he didn’t even own a car because he rode his bike everywhere. Once we started dating, he shared that passion with me too. He bought me my first mountain bike and has spent years trying to teach me how to ride better.

When we had our first son, Huxon, in 2021, we introduced him to bikes before he could even walk. He started on a balance bike and learned to ride a pedal bike at just 2 years old. Since then there hasn’t been a single day he hasn’t wanted to ride. When our second son, Krew, came along, he immediately wanted to keep up with Huxon and do everything his big brother was doing, so we followed the same path with him. He started on a Strider balance bike and actually learned to ride a pedal bike even earlier than Huxon.

While living in Conroe, some neighbors introduced us to BMX racing. After we relocated to Waxahachie, we realized Desoto BMX was close to home, so we decided to give it a try. It didn’t take long to realize Huxon not only loved BMX, but had an incredible amount of determination and natural talent for it. He has quickly worked his way up to the 5 Expert class and is currently the only 5-year-old in that category in the state of Texas.

Krew currently races balance bikes and brings plenty of entertainment and chaos to race days. He’ll soon begin racing pedal bikes as well.

Outside of BMX, we love taking the boys mountain biking and finding places where they can ride trails and hit jumps. They love anything with wheels and speed: BMX, mountain bikes, dirt bikes, and their STACYC electric bikes. Riding has become such a huge part of our family and the way we spend time together.

We started posting videos of the boys on social media as a way to stay connected with friends we met through racing. We love sharing our family’s passion for riding and hope we can inspire more kids and families to get outside, stay active, and experience the joy and confidence that riding bikes can bring.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Raising two young boys who are constantly pushing themselves on bikes also comes with its challenges. As parents, it can be nerve-wracking watching them take risks, crash, get back up, and try again. There have been tears, frustrations, and plenty of moments where we’ve questioned whether we’re crazy for encouraging some of the things they love to do. But we’ve also seen those challenges build confidence, resilience, and determination in both of them.

Traveling to races, maintaining bikes, finding time to practice, and balancing family life can be demanding as well. BMX and riding in general aren’t inexpensive sports, and there are definitely sacrifices that come with pursuing them as a family.

Social media has brought challenges too. Putting parts of your life online opens the door to criticism and negativity at times. We’ve learned to focus on why we started in the first place, to share our love of riding and connect with other families.

Through all of the ups and downs, we’ve never lost sight of what matters most: spending time together as a family. Every challenge has been worth it because riding gives us something we genuinely love doing together.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We’re a family who lives and breathes two wheels. Nick’s lifelong passion for BMX and cycling naturally shaped how we raise our boys, and it’s become a full lifestyle built around BMX racing, mountain biking, dirt bikes, and anything with speed and wheels.

Our boys took to riding quickly and have always seemed like naturals on a bike, showing real fearlessness at such a young age. Whether we’re at the BMX track, traveling across the U.S. for races, or riding at home, bikes are part of our everyday life.

More than anything, we’re focused on raising boys with respect, discipline, and a strong work ethic and seeing that already in them is what makes us most proud. Riding together as a family is something we don’t take for granted, and we hope it inspires other families to get outside and ride.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
We’ve had good luck in the sense of being introduced to the right people at the right time, like neighbors who brought BMX racing into our lives, or finding Desoto BMX so close after moving to Waxahachie. Those moments opened doors we didn’t even know we were looking for. We’ve also been lucky when it comes to safety, especially with how much time we spend riding bikes. Thankfully, we haven’t had any serious injuries (knock on wood). We’ve also been lucky to meet friends through racing who share the same love for bikes and family time that we do.

But more than luck, what we’ve learned is that consistency, showing up, and letting the boys follow what they love is what really shapes our story.
