Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Shaw.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Honestly my story starts very modestly, I’m an only child of a mother who wasn’t supposed to live to the age of twenty. My whole life I’ve been told I had to do or be someone/something special just because of that miracle alone, but my story didn’t end there, growing up I was always interested in art, wether that was through fashion, music, painting, literature, movies or etc. And being an only child allowed me to have so much free time on my hands to watch and engage in everything artistically and creative. And it sort of molded who I would end up becoming. But on that same coin it allowed me to become very easy going and social because I had none at home, which led me to create and entertain amazing relationships. time moving forward I had a friend named Crystal into modeling who asked me to be apart of, and from there I was introduced to the creating scene of Dallas, with that came more positive relationships and positive projects that I’ve had the honor to take place in and be apart of.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey has definitely not been smooth, throughout the hardships of losing close family to losing close friends to writers block, artistic blocks, fatigue, mental strain, depression, and the constant feeling of inadequacy I unfortunately know the feeling of grief, unfortunate tellings, and somewhat uncertainty. But I fight through every battle knowing that I have faith, not only faith in myself but also in God, the team I have around me, and my ancestors. Ive been blessed to be very mature for my age, and placed in so many positions that’s meant for me, my faith has never wandered and I’ve never been disappointed or led stray, and that’s what’s able to keep me going with a positive mind and wholeful heart.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The honest question is what don’t or can’t I do. From being apart of an original store (heights district),to modeling, to music, to styling, to creative directing, to curating events. As frustrating as a new thing is I take honor in pride being able to know that I can get the job done.
first approaching the creative scene I started with modeling, I grew into it and met so many amazing photographers and videographers, I’m excited to see where else this journey goes!
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
My whole life is based on risk takings, and believing in myself for the most part. Sometimes things are hard and you find yourself questioning wether you made the right decision, but I firmly believe that everything will work in order for you if you just believe!
