Daily Inspiration: Meet Jiselle Owens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jiselle Owens.

Hi Jiselle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up, I always had the support of my parents to accomplish anything I sent my mind to. Whether it was a business idea or sport I was interested in, my parents always found a way to make our dreams into a reality and that has inspired me to know that anything I want to achieve is possible if I put in the time and research. That is one of the main reasons I felt I was able to start my own business with little experience or guidance from someone who had been through this process before.

I went to a relatively large college that was not known for football and I still have some slight regret on not realizing the fun that happens tailgating before a big game or matching with your friends in the stands showing off your school spirit. This way a major push that allowed me to start my collegiate apparel business to provide anything but basic designs for smaller colleges that may not get the same love as Big 12 schools.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been the easiest road, but of course the challenges have been worth it! When I was first starting, I had major quality issues and went through a few suppliers who were not the most reliable and one even stop returning my calls when I was in a peak season! Managing issues like that and balancing a 9-5 job does make for some long nights, but the opportunity to let my creativity run wild for my own company is something I will never be able to let go of.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a college student, I was never a big fan of the options my local bookstore offered to show off my school spirit. After graduating and experience the vast options bigger colleges have at national chains, I decided to start my own company to provide unique designs for colleges who get ignored my major chains. We also provide chic game day options for all sports for fans to enjoy at any team game!

I am most proud of being able to support other local Dallas businesses that help me make my business possible! One day, I traveled all over Harry Hines to find the best sources for quality shirts and printing services for my shirt designs and I am proud to say that I rely heavily on two minority owned businesses. I am a true believer on supporting businesses in your backyard and it is even better when you can also make money while doing it!

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something people may not know is that I am not a fan of taking pictures! I am the face of my brand so I have to take pictures of myself in my product all the time, but it is still something I wish someone else could do for me. It is nice to have full control of the outcome of my product shots, but it is definitely something I am looking forward to outsourcing in the future!
