Today we’d like to introduce you to Joey Ohemeng.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always been obsessed with fashion! I was a very shy kid growing up but I spoke through my fashion if that makes sense. In middle school I got made fun of because I’d would experiment with clothes, I later moved away and started fresh at a new high school where I continued to be quiet but still fashionable. I started getting noticed around my school and I started to use instagram more to capture my aesthetic. All of a sudden I get asked by another student to do a photoshoot. It was my first ever shoot and it was in the lunch cafeteria in-front of everyone lol I was terrified! But it came out so good! Since then that’s when my modeling journey had started.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It most definitely has not been a smooth ride
Joining an industry led by agencies as a free lance model was very difficult. Lots of no’s were being said, but that never stopped me. I’m very stubborn.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
So as a creative in this entertainment industry I’ve had some great success.
Such as creative directing photoshoots,
Runway, editorial, and commercial modeling. And also work as an assistant director on an indie film set. I’ve been an extra in films. till this day it’s so weird seeing myself in a screen. I’ve done an ad campaign and was a video vixen for a music video, all can be found in my instagram.etc. What I’m most proud of is the fact I was able to do all these great things being myself. Hard work long hour drives back and forth to casting calls and shoots, I definitely was hungry. Not only that but I had something to prove for me and to the world. And I also had friends who love to support me from coming to shows to photoshoots to reposting my stuff on social platforms as well. I think what sets me apart from everyone is that I don’t put myself in a box, I don’t fit a certain genre, I simply am, you can’t categorize me, I’m always flowing with different creative ideas. I’m pretty cool if you ask me.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Community is important, I have an industry family full with great creators who have had my back throughout this journey with me. I have friends back in my hometown who scream my name who seen something special in me and has been on this journey of my come up since middle/high school. God has kept me safe through it all, it’s important to stay prayed up and have genuine people around you who want to see you win! When it comes to networking just be yourself and professional let people fall in love with the real you and always Remain humble
