Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Alvarez.
Hi Jose, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Las Estrellas de Tejas is a small an independent group that originated from Grand Prairie; it is owned & managed by 4 students who graduated from Grand Prairie High who wanted to continue dancing together. We used our experience from our time with Fuego Azul (Grand Prairie High’s Folklorico group) and love for our culture to start Las Estrellas De Tejas.
As individuals, we felt there wasn’t a company that offered us the family-like group or offered bigger opportunities to young adults. So, we decided to create a company that offers young adults to continue dancing and showcasing their love for their heritage. Las Estrellas has allowed us to perform in some of the biggest stages in the DFW area : Headlining FC Dallas halftime show, introducing Team Mexico at PBR Global Cup, and now we are the first folklorico group to headline our own residency at Sixflags Over Texas’ “Viva la Fiesta” festival.
As of now we offer classes to young adults who are looking to continue their passion & love for dancing. We are hoping to offer classes at the beginner level very soon, as well as “Las Estrellitas” for your younger children.
We believe our biggest strength is being family oriented like our culture, it is something no one can ever take away from us. Being able to represent nuestra cultura at any level means the world to us because we are able to represent and break barriers that past generations weren’t able to do.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Getting here was not easy, but we are very proud to represent our community and represent our ancestors. As an independent group it is a bit harder for us. Marketing, costumes, transportation are all our doing. As far as individually we have some extremely hard working members that because of their jobs or school, have to sacrifice some personal time to learn the choreography or use their own PTO for performance that are during the week.
These type of acts are what shows our dancers love & passion for what they do.

Las Estrellas de Tejas is filled with amazing people who all share their love & passion for the Mexican culture, who share the pride & honor it gives to be able to represent Mexico in some of the biggest stages.
What do you think about happiness?
Happiness is sharing the stage with our team. Our team is one big family and we are extremely thankful for every single one of them. Seeing the growth of each individual dancers on and off stage is incredible!
It brings us so much joy to be able to represent our culture through dance and to let our heritage be seen on stage.
