Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Hubert.
Hi Monique , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
At 26, I became a mother without much of a village around me. I knew I couldn’t afford to live in excuses, so I started searching for solutions. That journey led me into entrepreneurship through catering and food service. To my surprise, business began picking up quickly through personal events and private parties.
As rewarding as it was, balancing a growing business while raising a young son with limited help eventually became overwhelming. Thankfully, I’ve also been a licensed cosmetologist for over 10 years, so after catering slowed down, I returned to the salon. Even then, I never stopped pursuing entrepreneurship.
Instead of full meals, I shifted my focus toward from-scratch sweet treats and baked goods. After opening my own salon suite, I began hosting bake sales during slower days, combining two of my passions: beauty and baking. Over time, both my treat business and my journey in the beauty industry continued to grow.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that sometimes pausing, regrouping, and refining your vision is exactly what’s needed to keep moving forward. Today, I run a brand called Growth With Mo’, a platform created to encourage, empower, and inspire others to keep going and keep growing.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth? Is that a joke? Lol. This journey has honestly been the fight of my life.
Some of my biggest challenges have been limited resources, lack of funding, and simply not always having access to the information I needed. I’ve never had a business loan or outside investors — everything I’ve built has been funded out of pocket.
On top of that, motherhood is a full-time responsibility. Learning how to balance providing for my son while also giving him the time, love, and nurturing he needs is still something I navigate every day. My son is also autistic, so our journey has included evaluations, therapies, appointments, and learning how to advocate for him while still trying to grow a business and take care of myself.
There have been plenty of hard seasons: late nights, living off caffeine, transportation challenges, losing my salon suite, financial setbacks, and moments where it felt like everything was going wrong at once. But one thing about me is I’m determined. I may have to pause, pivot, or rebuild, but I’m going to keep working until I get it right.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
This is kind of a loaded question for me because, at my core, I’m both an advocate and a woman of faith. Simply put, the work I do is purposeful.
I still provide hair care services, specializing in scalp care and loc maintenance. For me, it’s about more than just helping clients look good — I care deeply about creating and maintaining a healthy foundation. Education, confidence, and self-care are all part of that experience.
I also own Mo’s Sweet Treats, where I create from-scratch mini bundt cakes, custom cupcakes, nostalgic treats, and other homemade sweets. Both my beauty services and treat business fall under my larger brand, Growth With Mo’, which also includes my content creation and community-focused platform.
What sets me apart is that I choose to grow out loud and encourage others to do the same. My brand isn’t necessarily traditional, and I won’t pretend it’s the biggest or most polished, but it’s real. It reflects resilience, faith, creativity, motherhood, entrepreneurship, and personal growth all happening in real time. My goal is simply to create something meaningful that positively impacts the lives of others while staying true to who I am.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I use ChatGPT a lot, honestly lol. I can be very chatty and sometimes my thoughts move faster than I can organize them, so it helps me take my ideas and turn them into polished captions, marketing content, and posts while still sounding like me.
I also use CapCut quite a bit since I create a lot of video content across my platforms. Content creation has become a major part of how I connect with people and share my journey.
Personally, I spend a lot of time reading, reflecting, and watching meaningful podcasts and documentaries. I enjoy content that keeps me grounded, gives me perspective, and reminds me to stay humble while continuing to grow both personally and professionally.
