Daily Inspiration: Meet RJay Green

Today we’d like to introduce you to RJay Green. He shares his story with us below:

RJay Green

RJay Green is an Inspirational singer-songwriter who uses his music as a medium to spread positivity and blessings to everyone around him. With a calm and soothing tone, RJay’s music is not only musically engaging, but also spiritually uplifting. As a devout Christian, his lyrics often reflect his faith and values, inspiring listeners to live a life of purpose and love.

Originally from Chicago, IL, by way of Nashville, TN, RJay’s musical journey began at a young age when he started singing in the church choir. Over time, his passion for music grew, and he began to write and record his own songs. Today, his music has gained a following among both Christian and secular audiences alike, thanks to its universal message of hope and compassion.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road, and honestly, I didn’t expect it to be. Being an independent artist and writer that writes from experience, I am sensitive and vulnerable about my music. When you’re a part of an industry that looks at your Instagram followers and not your actual gift, it can be discouraging. I’ve witnessed many artists change for the industry and no longer present music that is true and authentic to what they believe.

I want to remain true to what I believe and who I am as an artist. To be transparent, one of the biggest struggles I faced was understanding that I am good enough. It’s nice to hear it from others, but I needed to believe it myself. It took many hours in the mirror speaking words of life and many days practicing for me to finally believe in myself. Today, I am confident in who I am, and I wholeheartedly believe that I have what it takes, and I am enough.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an independent artist, songwriter, background vocalist, vocal producer, and life coach.

I am most proud of ALL of my music and the music I am currently working on.

What sets me apart is my authentic approach to music. I am a storyteller, and all of my songs are written from an experience. My very first EP is entitled, “Where Are You”. If you take a chance to listen, all of my songs are named after places where God met me. This project was distributed by EOne Indieblu Music and reached #13 on the Apple Music charts. I wanted to deliver a project that gave my listeners that “coffee shop vibe”. I fell in love with coffee at the age of 6, when my sister and I begged my grandmother for a cup. I ended up drinking my cup and my sister’s. Since that moment, my first job was at a coffee shop, my first single was, “Coffee Shop” and I’m now serving a community of people called, “Coffee Community”.

I am well-known in Nashville for being the Coffee Guy! My individualism and style is centered on the “coffee shop vibe”. I absolutely love coffee. I love the atmosphere of a coffee shop. It is chill, laid back, and everyone is focused or laughing; having a good time. My music gives the listener those same vibes. Very calm and carefree, but also very real and focused on delivering a powerful message.”

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I relocated to Dallas, TX, from Nashville, TN, back in September 2023. This was my first big move away from my family, friends, and everything I’d known, but I knew I was called to do it. I didn’t know what it truly meant to be alone until I moved here, so I began to shift my prayer. I started to ask God to surround me with like-minded people. After this prayer, I started meeting others who had just moved to Dallas for a purpose, leaving their family and friends, who were also just looking for a community. One day, I contacted a friend and said I wanted to host a brunch at my place. I was able to secure a caterer and musicians and get the word out within 24 hours. It was great how organically it came together.

With little to no promotion, I had around 18 people attend the brunch. We were able to fellowship, network, and connect over food and live music. With so many great responses from this one event, the idea of starting a community sparked. We are the Coffee Community (@coffeecommunitydtx)! We are 15 members strong and are always looking for others who are passionate and serious about their future. We have a group chat where we encourage and support each other. I host Sunday dinners, we have a prayer call every Monday morning, and overall, we love each other.

My advice to those who’ve just moved to a new city or is thinking about it: be open to finding community. Use Eventbrite, find different events to go to, and simply just be yourself. We live in a world where there’s only enough room for one of you! You will miss the opportunity of finding your tribe trying to be something you’re not and end up surrounded by people who love the pretend you. You’re good enough to be loved, supported, and cared for. Just remain true to yourself and in no time, you’ll find your community.
