Daily Inspiration: Meet Tito Bachez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tito Bachez.

Hi Tito, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Like many entrepreneurs, my journey wasn’t a straight line.

I was born in Calgary, it wasn’t until I started exploring the Canadian Rockies that I truly fell in love with the mountains. I realized that what made these places special wasn’t just the scenery. It was the stories behind them, the history, the wildlife, the geology, and the feeling people took home after experiencing them.

I started Rocky Mountain Trips with one vehicle (SUV) while working a full time job in finance. With 1 simple goal: create guided experiences that felt personal rather than transactional. I wanted visitors to feel like they were exploring the Rockies with a knowledgeable local friend, not just being transported from one viewpoint to the next.

In the beginning, I did everything myself. I answered emails, drove tours, cleaned vehicles, handled marketing, and learned the business through trial and error. There were plenty of challenges, especially navigating seasonality, growing competition, and building trust in a crowded tourism industry. Every obstacle became an opportunity to improve.

Today, Rocky Mountain Trips has welcomed thousands of guests from around the world and has earned more than 2,000 five-star reviews along with recognition such as the 2025 Viator Experience Award. What makes me most proud, however, is that we’ve remained a family-operated, Calgary-based business. Many of our guides are family members who genuinely love sharing the Rockies with others, and that passion shines through in every tour.

For me, success has never been measured simply by the number of guests we serve. It’s measured by the memories we help create. Watching someone see the turquoise waters of Lake Louise for the first time, spotting wildlife in its natural habitat, or hearing a guest say their day with us was the highlight of their Canadian vacation reminds me why I started this journey in the first place.

We’re still growing, still learning, and still driven by the same mission we had on day one: to help people experience the Canadian Rockies in a meaningful, unforgettable way.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No entrepreneurial journey is ever completely smooth, and mine has certainly had its share of challenges. Like many small business owners, there have been moments of uncertainty, unexpected setbacks, and difficult decisions that tested both my patience and resilience.

The tourism industry is constantly evolving, so adapting has always been part of the job. Every challenge has pushed me to learn, improve, and become more resourceful. Looking back, those experiences have shaped not only the business but also the way I approach leadership and problem-solving.

I’ve come to believe that success isn’t about avoiding obstacles. It’s about staying committed to your vision, being willing to adapt, and continuing to move forward, even when the path isn’t easy.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I own and operate Rocky Mountain Trips, a family-owned tour company based in Calgary that specializes in small-group guided experiences throughout Banff, Yoho, and Kootenay National Parks. We focus on creating authentic experiences that go beyond simply visiting famous landmarks. Our goal is to help guests understand the places they’re exploring through local stories, history, geology, wildlife, and the people who call the Rockies home.

What sets us apart is our philosophy. We don’t believe a great tour is just about transportation. It’s about connection. Every guide on our team is passionate about the mountains, and we take pride in offering experiences that feel personal, educational, and relaxed. We want guests to leave feeling like they spent the day with locals who genuinely care about their experience.

As an owner, I’m involved in nearly every aspect of the business, from planning itineraries and marketing to guiding tours and constantly looking for ways to improve. That hands-on approach has allowed us to build a strong reputation and earn the trust of travelers from around the world.

What I’m most proud of isn’t any single award or milestone. It’s the community we’ve built. We’ve welcomed thousands of guests, earned over 2,000 five-star reviews, and created a business that my family is proud to be part of. Knowing that our tours become a highlight of someone’s trip to Canada is incredibly rewarding and reminds me why I started this journey in the first place.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
If I had to choose one quality, it would be perseverance.

Building a business has taught me that success rarely happens overnight. There will always be setbacks, unexpected challenges, and moments when things don’t go according to plan. What matters is how you respond. I’ve learned to stay focused on the bigger picture, adapt when necessary, and keep moving forward even when progress feels slow.

I also believe that genuine care for people has played a significant role in my journey. Whether it’s our guests, our team, or our business partners, I’ve always tried to build relationships based on trust, honesty, and consistency. In the long run, those relationships are worth far more than any short-term gain.

At the end of the day, I think success comes from showing up every day, doing the small things well, and never losing sight of why you started.
