Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Larson.
Hi Tyler , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Where do I start, from high school iv always been an artist in every way possible
I started my journey touring and playing music across Texas and after Covid my dreams took a hault until a friend of mine hit me up about a job position
That’s where it all began neon jackel tattoo
I had a classic and challenging apprenticeship
But it gave me endurance and the strength to prevail and to do what I love.
Times where hard in houston in the beginning of my career barley made enough to get by
So I made the decision to move city’s
It was scarily and nothing was guaranteed, but I packed up what I could all I brought me with me was a backpack and my portfolio. I jumped on a greyhound bus and drove to Dallas. I stayed there for a little while with a friend went shop to shop with my portfolio got denied over and over again until I found Lifetime Body Art. They gave me a shot and I’ve been there ever since I’ve been growing and tattooing more and more of the community and becoming more and more a part of the community it made me fall in love with tattooing all over again and it just goes to show if you pursue and chase your dreams anything as possible if you just don’t give up.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road from an oversaturation of artist and many cities to competitive pricing and the economy. Things have been very hard, but I stuck to my guns and kept on tattooing no matter what I was tattooing while I was homeless sleeping in my car, going eating from Tattoo to Tattoo doing what I can drawing every day painting every day furthering my craft once I finally got to Lifetime Body Art they gave me a shot and let me sleep in the Tattoo shop for six months while I got back on my feet. Honestly, it saved my life.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in true American traditional and neo, traditional tattoos I believe bold will hold meaning bold lines packed full color will stand the test of time. I love to draw anything I’m really really fond of animation and classic tattoo designs from the 1950s and on I also draw a lot of dark fantasy stuff. I’m really all over the place you name it I can do it.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I think my favorite childhood memory would have to be in 2012. I got to play vans warp tour because my band won the selection for the state and in Texas. We got to represent and play on the Ernie ball stage in front of thousands of people I’ll never forget that.
