Today we’d like to introduce you to Zion Pullman.
Hi Zion, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hello, my name is Zion. Before I became a professional animator, I started out drawing comics on paper as a kid. Eventually, I started drawing digitally as a kid in Microsoft Paint and used Windows Movie Maker to make my images move like a “flip book”- style animation. Over the years, I progressed in Adobe Flash Professional (Now Adobe Animate) and went from there. I was inspired by many cartoons from the 2000s and developed a style to honor that era of television animation.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While I’m a passionate animator, creating all these cartoons and ideas didn’t come easily. For starters, as I was beginning to learn how to draw more often, I had to deal with opposition from bullies and faculty for my creativity. Later in high school, I dealt with many forms of rejection and isolation that caused unwanted pain. However, in spite of those difficulties with rejection, it helped create new story ideas for my character, Zion, and his animal friend team. Without those challenges, I would not have created great episodes and shorts, and would not have real material for my upcoming animations. So in a way, it was a blessing in disguise.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an expert in 2D animation and am now exploring 3D animation. I created a series named “Zeeskyzii the Animated Series,” currently running at 4 Seasons on YouTube (Created back in 2020). They are predominantly animated in Adobe Animate but have recently been supported with animation work in Toon Boom Harmony. I animate the characters and also pitch in with voicing them. My characters, Raymon the Gecko and Zion, are my most notable roles in the show.
I am currently finishing an animated film named “Zeeskyzii,” which retells Zion’s story in 3D photorealistic animation, mainly created in Blender. It will expand the team’s universe in a more cinematic and heartfelt way, not fully captured in episodes.
