Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Sholars King.
Hi Angela, thanks for joining us today. Can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In the year 2004, my life changed forever. During the month of June, I started my 501 (c) (3) nonprofit international intercessory prayer ministry. We grew into six locations…TX, NC, and four located in Africa…Liberia, West Africa, Nakuru, Kenya, Sierra Leone, West Africa and Benin, Nigeria. This ministry was developed to assist and train men and women about the power of prayer. We have been very instrumental in helping families through prayer, support, scholarships, and encouragement. Through prayer, we have empowered men, women, and families to not give up. Believe in God and the power of prayer. After many years of serving others, in 2021, during COVID, I became a certified Life Purpose Coach and started my life coaching business. My programs and services are designed to help you move forward and into your purpose. I noticed that during COVID, so many people were feeling stuck and unproductive. I have always had a heart for people. Seeing my friends hurting encouraged me to give back. I wanted to help them find purpose and encourage them to move forward in life. My coaching sessions are designed to show you that you are stronger than you think. You are capable of doing anything that you put you mind to. But first, you have to believe in yourself. While coaching others, I decided it was time to write a portion of my life story. I started to write my first memoir and prayer journal. The title of my book is Not No, WAIT: My Painful Journey Through Infertility, Deceit, and Death, released in January 2023. The prayer journal, 21 Days of Fasting and Praying was released in April 2023. This book walks you through the darkest part of my life. It starts with me being told that I would never have children at 17 years old. My long struggle with infertility. During my season of infertility, I had to also look deceit and death in the eye. This book confirms the reasoning for my ministry. After you read my book, you will truly understand the power of prayer. This book is dedicated to my daughter Alexis. I wanted her to know, how much she is loved by me and God.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. I didn’t feel qualified or worthy to be a ministry leader. Starting a ministry, especially an international intercessory prayer ministry, was very challenging for me. I had no clue what to do or how to begin. I knew that it would involve more than just praying for people. God told me that it would be international. I didn’t know anyone internationally in 2004. I needed a website and knew nothing about websites. Nor did I have the extra funds needed to make that happen. But God sent the right people in my life to assist and help me start his ministry. Everything started to fall into place. I knew that it was God because I didn’t have a clue of what to do and who to ask. God sent people to help me that I didn’t even know. In my coaching business, my daily challenges are directing my clients’ minds to stay focused on their future and not their past. It is human nature to want to hold on to your past and let it sometimes dictate your future. My determination is to move my clients forward without looking back. Deciding to write my book was the most challenging experience. My book would require me to open up and talk about hurtful and very private parts of my life that I did not want to relive. I had buried them deep down in my subconscious, and that is where I wanted them to stay. During the one-year timeframe that it took me to finally commit to completing the book, I relived that journey of pain, disappointment, shame, frustration, hurt, confusion, depression, emptiness, deceit, and death all over again.

During my career, I worked in corporate banking, for-profit, and non-profit worlds as a Small Business officer and CEO of Women Praying for Christ, Inc. My hobbies include all things fun and entertaining. Reading, traveling, spending time with family and friends, learning, growing, welcoming new experiences, and praying are constant in my life. My brand is Not, No WAIT. I encourage you to wait for your dreams and goals to be fulfilled while putting in the necessary work.
My 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization is Women Praying for Christ, Inc. We are a Christian Sister/Brotherhood and Support Group that emphasizes intercessory prayer training, support, and empowerment. We pray for you every Tuesday morning at 5:45 a.m. CST on our prayer line at 971-379-9223. This line is open to the public. You may dial in to listen or submit your personal prayer request.
Alright, so before we go, can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
We are always looking for volunteers to help assist us with our events, securing event space, and praying for individuals and groups. We are currently looking for donated building space or funding to assist the homeless, those who want and desire prayer daily, and women who need a safe place that they can come and talk about infertility challenges. This would be in a private and confidential setting. Our current community outreach project is collecting new and used wigs for women who are going through chemo and radiation cancer treatments until Sep 24, 2023. We are also in need of hair stylists to wash and style all used wigs. All wigs will be donated on Oct 9, 2023, to various organizations and women in need.
