Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Weber.
Hi Ben, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Code K9 has been training dogs for over 20 years, I was a volunteer firefighter for five years prior to moving to Texas and then when I moved to Texas in 2005, I trained and became a certified search and rescue K9 handler. After my experience in search and rescue, I began training other dogs because I discovered that a well-trained dog is happier and more emotionally stable. Training provides freedom, bonding, and opportunities that enhance the relationship between owners and dogs. Today, I specialize in large and medium size dog training for owners that desire to enhance the structure and relationship with their dog. Code K9 is a small family run business that focuses elite quality training with a personal touch for both the dog and owners Code K9 is an approved American Kennel Club (AKC) Evaluator and a member of the International Association Canine Professionals.
Additional Certifications include: Canine First Responder First Aid, Search and Rescue, and SAR Tech II.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No real struggles from a business perspective, just slow incremental growth.
We’ve been impressed with Code K9 , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Dogs can be unpredictable and as a trainer, you must learn to embrace the unknown relative to how a dog may react, what their previous life experiences have been, fears, confidence, and motivations. Overtime, as a trainer, I learn each dog’s character but at the start of training for each new dog, there are always a lot of unknowns so I have to focus on consistent approaches, embrace flexibility, patience, and learn how to meet the dog at their level so they can have a positive training experience.
