Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Johnson.
Hi Chelsea, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Once I started a Sales Job, for an insurance company, and was good at it, I discovered my potential to sell. My two boys, Dion and Deron, have always been my motivation to achieve more and want a different life, so I started brainstorming.
I started selling hair bundles, thinking that was my passion but I soon found out fashion was my passion.
My cousin would always mention I needed to be a stylist or say I needed to style her and an idea went off in my head, like yes, I could do that!
My hair brand was called Flourish Me Beauty by Rene so I dropped the “Me Beauty by Rene” and created Flourish Designz Boutique! My mom actually helped me decide on my clothing brand name.
I got my resellers permit and just started researching on YouTube, how to start a clothing boutique. I researched wholesale websites and everything just felt right. I was really motivated to learn about owning a boutique of my own. I wanted women to feel beautiful and confident, in the pieces I selected.
At the beginning, I was just buying pieces that I liked and it wasn’t working all that great. I had to start looking at other boutiques and get inspired and learn from brands that I felt were popping. I grew inspiration from Lilly’s Closet, Muurswag, and Jonkboxx. I followed them on IG and just looked at the styles they had and started creating a style that I thought my clients wanted.
Then the pandemic hit and I was sent to work from home and was able to get more done with my business. Prior to working from home, I was at the office working my 9-5 and my business.
I ended up quitting my job in 2021, in the middle of the pandemic, because it was getting to be too much-selling insurance for me and I really wanted to go full force for my business. I would not recommend that at all. Lol, I did it anyway and was blessed to meet LaTonya Donaldson, the owner of The Queen’s Parlor.
July 4, 2021, Flourish Designz Boutique, officially became a clothing vendor and we’ve been rocking there ever since! Flourish Designz Boutique is inside the same mall I used to go to, as a little girl and teenager. The Music City Mall Lewisville is formerly known as Vista Ridge Mall.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
God heavens no. Whew this past year was the toughest, I’ve endured. I lost my car. I lost my apartment. Had to move in with my mom, with my two boys, because we didn’t have anywhere else to go. I got discouraged many of times and at times wanted to just give up because I wasn’t understanding what God was trying to teach me thru these mishaps, in my life. I realize now what he was trying to teach me. Your mind is more powerful than you think, and if you just trust the process, you will be rewarded. Also being a mom, my boys are always looking up to me, so I had to show them no matter what situation you’re in, God will see you thru.
When I was going thru my toughest times, I would pick up the phone and call my granny and I thank God for her being here because she helped me thru my toughest times yet.
In January of 2022, I was blessed with a job I absolutely adore, still in the insurance industry. Go figure. Lol But I love the flexibility of this company, I get to work, build myself back up, and also have time to work on my business. God is good.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I was raised with my mom, my stepdad, my two brothers, and sister. They did a wonderful job, might I add. I didn’t find out about my biological dad until I was about 7 years old. I saw him maybe 2 or 3 times, in my childhood. Once I found out, I longed for that connection, I didn’t get the connection I wanted until I was about 27.
Everything I’ve gone thru has made me the woman I am today and I’m thankful for the connection my father and I share now, it’s more than what I could’ve dreamed of,
I also am a God mommy to a wonderful little girl Nylah.
