Exploring Life & Business with Christopher Wilkins II of Wilkins Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Wilkins II.

Hi Christopher, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born and raised in the Dallas, TX area, while spending summers in Denver, CO, as far back as I can remember my first desired profession was “cameraman”. Nearly 15 years ago, I picked up my first film camera, and with the support and guidance of a childhood mentor, I began learning the fundamentals of photography and nurturing what would become a lifelong calling.

Over the last decade, I’ve dedicated myself not only to mastering the art of photography and cinematography, but also to understanding the business behind it. I’ve been blessed with opportunities to work with UFC professionals, serve the disabled community, teach Photography 101 seminars, exhibit my work, and create content for brands such as Michaels and AT&T.

While I love working with businesses to elevate their brand through powerful visual storytelling, I am equally passionate about serving private citizens and families.

I firmly believe that phone photos make poor long-term memories. Moments fade. Files get lost. Quality lasts.

Investing in professional photography is investing in your future, in the legacy your children and grandchildren will one day look back on.

Whether it’s a brand trying to communicate excellence, a family wanting to preserve a season of life, or an individual building confidence through strong imagery, my goal is the same: to create visuals that make people feel something, now and decades from now.

After being laid off from my day job, I chose to go all in on this calling as a full-time photographer. Through steady faith in God, a humble heart, and excitement for the journey ahead, I aim to serve, learn from experienced professionals, and make a meaningful impact in every life I encounter, with or without a camera in hand.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been anything but a smooth road for sure. Just this past year I was abandoned by my spouse, my car broke down, my dream camera failed and broke down, I got laid off from my day job, had a death scare with my dog, and lost my grandfather who was/is a huge inspiration to me and got me back into photography when I had been leaving it on the backburner. All of these struggles have made me more resiliant and have refined my goal of making it as a full time creative proffesional. Since getting laid off, I decided to go out on faith and pursure that goal and have been doing photography and video full time.

We’ve been impressed with Wilkins Photography, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I use strong visual storytelling and language to help businesses communicate things that are hard to put into words. Not everyone has the same needs when it comes to marketing and I keep that at the forefront of every client I work with. The biggest thing people should know is , it’s not about “marketing” it’s about brands building relationships with their customers. Whether it’s making someone hungry for food they haven’t tried yet before they’ve walked into your restraunt, or making someone feel at home somewhere they’ve never been. I provide businesses a way to sell a feeling to their customers through powerful visuals.

For the private citizen, much of that still applies. Phone’s make poor memories. Quality is rememebred. Photos are one of the only products we buy that continiously get more and more valueable regardless of econmoic circumstance. Being able to change the way people look at themselves in a positive light is one of the most impactful things I get to do. Making a couple remember their wedding better than their minds could. Helping someone be seen as they truly want to be. These are the things that make photography special.

What does success mean to you?
I define success as a state of being. A mode of living that naturally produces fruits of prosperity not only for yourself, but for those around you. We all want to achieve a level of financial secuirty, and it’s too easy to get focussed on that. But I believe success is measuered in the ways you effect the lives around you. Everything else is just a reflection of that I think.
