Exploring Life & Business with Cody Lee of Food Truck Club

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Lee.

Hi Cody, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been entrepreneurial for as long as I can remember. I’ve always loved spotting gaps in the market, identifying unmet needs, and testing ideas that most people would probably consider a little crazy. That curiosity and drive to build things is what eventually led me to create Food Truck Club.

The idea started when I learned about someone in a small out-of-state market who had built relationships with local food trucks and was brokering catering opportunities on their behalf. It immediately clicked for me. I realized food truck owners are incredibly talented at what they do, creating amazing food and memorable experiences, but many of them could use help consistently acquiring catering customers. At the same time, customers were overwhelmed trying to navigate all the available options on their own. In Dallas Fort Worth alone, there are over 1,000 food trucks and mobile food vendors.

What I saw was a massive opportunity to remove friction for both sides.

That’s how Food Truck Club was born.

We built a platform that modernizes the entire food truck booking experience. Instead of calling around, waiting on responses, or filling out long inquiry forms and waiting days to hear back, customers can now browse local food trucks, explore menus, select options, and book an event in less than five minutes. We wanted the experience to feel instant, seamless, and enjoyable. The way modern online booking should feel.

What’s been especially exciting is seeing how much demand exists in the corporate catering world. Companies today are looking for better ways to engage and appreciate employees, and food trucks have become one of the fastest growing trends in workplace catering. Employees are tired of the same traditional catering setups and limited options. Food trucks bring something different. Fresh food made to order, variety, energy, and an experience people genuinely get excited about.

One day it might be tacos. The next day barbecue, pizza, Mediterranean, or gourmet desserts. All right outside the office or warehouse. And because food trucks are often comparable in cost to traditional catering, employers can create a far more memorable experience without dramatically increasing budgets.

We also love the flexibility of the model. We can support anything from a small office lunch to large scale employee appreciation events serving thousands of people with 10 or more trucks onsite.

At the heart of it all, though, Food Truck Club is about supporting local businesses and communities. We take a lot of pride in helping food truck owners grow their businesses, support their families, and gain access to opportunities they may not have otherwise reached on their own.

What started in Dallas Fort Worth has now expanded into Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Chicago, and other markets across the country. Our vision is to build the largest and most trusted food truck booking platform in the United States while continuing to make booking a food truck fast, easy, and enjoyable for everyone involved.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like most startups, the journey has been full of challenges, pivots, and learning experiences.

One of the biggest challenges early on was simply building trust on both sides of the marketplace. Customers needed confidence that food trucks would show up on time, provide great food, and deliver a professional experience. At the same time, food truck owners needed confidence that we could consistently bring them legitimate, high quality catering opportunities worth their time.

Another challenge was that we were trying to modernize an industry that has historically operated very manually. Most food truck bookings still happen through phone calls, text messages, Facebook posts, and long back and forth conversations. We believed the process can be much faster and more seamless, but changing expectations and habits in any industry takes time.

What has made it worth it is seeing the impact. Watching local food trucks grow their businesses, seeing employees excited when trucks arrive onsite, and hearing customers talk about how easy the process has become reminds us why we started Food Truck Club in the first place.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Food Truck Club?
Food Truck Club is a modern online marketplace that makes booking food trucks fast, simple, and enjoyable. We connect businesses, property managers, event planners, schools, hospitals, apartment communities, and individuals with local food trucks for catering and onsite events.

What really sets us apart is that we’ve built a true self service booking platform for the food truck industry. Traditionally, booking a food truck has been a slow and frustrating process involving phone calls, unanswered messages, spreadsheets, or inquiry forms that can take days to get responses from. With Food Truck Club, customers can browse trucks, explore menus, compare options, and complete a booking online in less than five minutes.

We specialize heavily in corporate catering and recurring employee appreciation events. One of the biggest trends we’ve seen is employers looking for better ways to engage employees and improve workplace culture. Food trucks create an experience that feels exciting and memorable compared to traditional catering. Fresh food is cooked onsite, employees get variety, and the atmosphere naturally brings people together.

We’re also proud of the flexibility we offer. We can support everything from small office lunches and birthday parties to large scale events serving thousands of employees with multiple trucks onsite. Whether it’s a hospital celebrating nurses week, an Amazon distribution center feeding overnight associates, a luxury apartment community hosting residents, or a bride looking for a unique wedding catering option, we’ve built a platform that can support events of all sizes.

Brand wise, what we’re most proud of is supporting local entrepreneurs and small businesses. Every booking through Food Truck Club helps support local food truck owners, their families, and the communities they serve. Many food truck owners are incredible chefs and hardworking entrepreneurs, but they often lack the time or resources to consistently market themselves and acquire catering customers. We help bridge that gap.

We’re also proud of the technology and user experience we’ve built. We believe booking a food truck should feel as modern and seamless as booking a hotel or vacation rental online. That mindset has helped us grow from serving Dallas Fort Worth into multiple markets across the country, including Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Chicago, and beyond.

At the end of the day, we want people to know that Food Truck Club is about more than just food. It’s about bringing people together, creating memorable experiences, supporting local businesses, and making events easier and more enjoyable for everyone involved.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I think people are sometimes surprised by how passionate I am about supporting local entrepreneurs. On the surface, Food Truck Club may look like a tech platform, but at its core it’s really about helping small business owners succeed. Many food truck owners are incredibly hardworking people chasing the American dream, often supporting families while working extremely long hours. Being able to help them grow their businesses and create new opportunities for them has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.
