Today we’d like to introduce you to Desiree Gibbens.
Hi Desiree, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I got my start in both hip-hop and country radio, managing social media for stations in Sacramento. That experience was where I first learned how to create content for different audiences, understand engagement, and think strategically about how brands connect with people online.
While attending the University of Alabama, I continued working in radio while expanding my experience in digital marketing and social media. During the COVID pandemic, I made the move to Dallas, which was a major transition. I was entering a new city without an established network while also figuring out the next step in my career. After relocating, I worked part-time with a radio station in Fort Worth, continuing to develop my skills and gain hands-on experience while exploring new opportunities.
A turning point came when I met my business partner through social media work. What started as a professional connection quickly grew into a shared vision. That relationship inspired both of us to build something of our own, ultimately leading us to launch our business and creating the foundation for where we are today.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. One of the biggest struggles for me was financial instability, especially early on while trying to figure out my path professionally. A really pivotal time was when I moved back to Dallas in 2022. I was working through a lot personally and professionally, trying to determine what I wanted my career to look like and where I truly wanted to focus my energy. It was a challenging and uncertain period, but it pushed me to grow, stay consistent, and keep building relationships. That journey eventually led me to meeting my business partner and creating the opportunities I have today.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Posts & Petals?
Posts & Petals is a digital marketing agency that specializes in helping wedding vendors grow their brand and online presence in a way that feels authentic to who they are. Our primary focus is social media management for wedding professionals throughout the DFW area, including wedding planners, venue owners, florists, photographers, and other creatives in the industry. We also offer wedding content creation, SEO, and ad management to help our clients build a strong and cohesive marketing strategy.
Social media management is the heart of what we do. It has given us the opportunity to work alongside some incredible wedding vendors and help showcase the meaningful work they do every day. We love helping businesses not only market themselves online, but also tell their story in a way that connects with their ideal clients and reflects the experience they provide.
Posts & Petals was created after seeing a real need in the industry. Following COVID, many small business owners were facing financial challenges and often viewed marketing as something that was out of reach. We wanted to create a marketing company that felt approachable, relationship-driven, and supportive rather than transactional. Our goal was to provide wedding vendors with accessible marketing solutions that help them grow without losing sight of what makes their business unique.
One of the things that sets us apart is the balance we bring as business partners. I come from the creative side of marketing, while my business partner has a strong background in strategy and marketing. Together, we bring more than 18 years of combined experience across multiple areas of marketing, allowing us to create customized strategies based on each client’s goals and needs.
What I’m most proud of is how relationship-oriented we are. We genuinely care about the people we work with and want our clients to feel supported, understood, and aligned with us. We take the time to listen to business owners, understand their vision, and treat their goals as if they were our own. We also recognize that every business has different needs and budgets, especially in today’s economy, so we strive to create flexible solutions that make sense for where they are.
At the end of the day, Posts & Petals is about more than marketing. It’s about building meaningful relationships, helping wedding vendors grow with intention, and creating content and strategies that authentically reflect who they are and the experiences they provide for their clients.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I truly enjoy learning through Coursera because it allows me to continuously grow both creatively and professionally. I’ve always valued learning new skills and staying open to different perspectives, especially in marketing where things are constantly evolving.
One resource that had a significant impact on me this year was the book Choose Your Hard by Keith Craft. It challenged me to think differently about discipline, personal growth, and leadership, while reinforcing the idea that every path comes with its own set of challenges.
