Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Monica Moray.
Dr. Monica, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey to entrepreneurship has been anything but traditional.
For most of my career, I worked in leadership development, organizational strategy, and human resources for large global organizations. I earned a doctorate in Organizational Leadership, an MBA, and built a successful corporate career helping organizations develop talent, build culture, and navigate change. On paper, the event industry seemed like an unlikely path for me.
But entrepreneurship has always been part of who I am.
As a child, I sold Girl Scout cookies, baked goods, and even started a holiday gift-wrapping business. After college, I launched a dessert shop, sold products online, and later built a large social event and travel organization. Looking back, I was always creating, building, and finding ways to bring people together.
The idea for Blush Event Garden came from recognizing a problem that I had experienced myself. I saw people wanting beautiful celebrations but struggling with the cost, complexity, and stress that often came with planning them. It felt like there was a gap between expensive traditional venues and the overwhelming do-it-yourself approach many families were forced to take.
I became obsessed with the question: Why should celebrating life’s most important moments be so difficult?
That question led me down a path of research, planning, and eventually taking a leap into an industry I knew very little about. Like many entrepreneurs, I started with more determination than certainty. I spent nights and weekends researching venue models, building business plans, designing experiences, sourcing décor, and figuring out how to turn an idea into something real.
When I opened the first Blush Event Garden location, I wore every hat imaginable. I was giving tours, answering inquiries, cleaning venues, decorating events, meeting vendors, managing marketing, and solving problems as they came. There were more questions than answers at first—but I had a belief that there was a better way to help people celebrate.
What began as one location has since grown into a multi-location brand focused on intimate weddings, baby showers, birthdays, graduations, and milestone celebrations. Along the way, we’ve been fortunate to receive industry recognition and serve hundreds of families throughout the Dallas area.
What I’m most proud of, however, isn’t the growth. It’s knowing that we’ve created spaces where people can gather, celebrate, and create moments that matter. Whether it’s a bride walking down the aisle, a family celebrating a graduation, or parents welcoming a new baby, those experiences remind me why I started this journey in the first place.
Today, I see Blush Event Garden as much more than an event venue company. We’re creating places where people can connect, celebrate milestones, and strengthen relationships. As we continue to grow, that’s the mission that continues to guide everything we do.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think that’s true for most entrepreneurs.
One of the biggest challenges was entering an industry where I had no formal background. I had to learn an entirely new business model from the ground up while simultaneously building the company. There were countless moments where I was figuring things out in real time, making mistakes, learning lessons, and adjusting along the way.
Another challenge was balancing the realities of entrepreneurship with the expectations people often have when they see a business growing. From the outside, people see beautiful events, social media content, and new locations. What they don’t always see are the early mornings, late nights, financial risks, difficult decisions, and constant problem-solving that happen behind the scenes.
Like many business owners, I wore every hat in the beginning. I was the salesperson, marketer, event designer, cleaner, customer service representative, and operations manager all at the same time. There were days when I would give a tour in the morning, decorate an event in the afternoon, answer customer inquiries at night, and then spend hours working on the business after my children had gone to bed.
One of the most significant turning points in my journey was transitioning from a corporate leadership career into full-time entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship requires a different mindset. You have to become comfortable with uncertainty and trust yourself even when there isn’t a clear roadmap.
There have also been challenges that come with growth itself. Expanding locations, building systems, hiring the right people, maintaining consistency, and protecting the customer experience all become increasingly important as a business grows. Growth creates new opportunities, but it also creates new responsibilities.
Looking back, though, I wouldn’t change those struggles. They forced me to become a better leader, a better business owner, and a more resilient person. They taught me that success is rarely about avoiding challenges. It’s about continuing to move forward, learning from setbacks, and staying connected to the reason you started in the first place.
Every challenge has reinforced the same lesson: meaningful things take time to build. The road hasn’t always been easy, but it has absolutely been worth it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Blush Event Garden ?
Blush Event Garden is a modern event venue company built around the belief that life’s meaningful moments deserve beautiful spaces.
We specialize in intimate weddings, micro weddings, baby showers, bridal showers, birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, and milestone celebrations. Our venues are designed to offer an elevated experience without the complexity, stress, and expense that often come with traditional event planning.
What makes us different is that we don’t simply rent event space. We create experiences. Many people are surprised to learn that our services include all-inclusive options, allowing clients to walk into a beautiful environment without having to spend months coordinating vendors, sourcing décor, or managing countless details themselves.
At its core, Blush was created to solve a problem. I saw so many people wanting a beautiful celebration but feeling overwhelmed by the time, cost, and effort required to make it happen. There seemed to be a gap between large traditional venues and the do-it-yourself approach many families were forced into. We built Blush to bridge that gap by making celebrations more accessible, approachable, and enjoyable.
What I’m most proud of is that we’ve created a brand that stands for more than events. We stand for connection, community, and creating moments that matter. Every weekend, we have the privilege of watching families celebrate graduations, couples exchange vows, parents welcome new babies, and friends gather to honor life’s milestones. Those moments remind us that what we’re really providing isn’t a venue—it’s a place where memories are made.
Brand-wise, I’m proud that we’ve stayed true to our mission as we’ve grown. It’s easy for businesses to become focused solely on transactions, but we’ve worked hard to keep people at the center of everything we do. We want every client to feel seen, supported, and excited about their celebration.
If there’s one thing I hope readers take away, it’s that Blush Event Garden is about more than hosting events. It’s about helping people pause long enough to celebrate the moments that deserve to be remembered. In a world that often moves too fast, we believe those moments matter.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is people and the relationships we build throughout our lives.
Many of the things we spend our time chasing—titles, achievements, and possessions—are often temporary. What stays with us are the moments we’ve shared, the people we’ve loved, and the memories we’ve created along the way.
As a wife, mother of three, founder, and someone who has spent an entire career studying leadership and human behavior, I’ve come to believe that connection is one of the most important parts of a meaningful life. We all want to feel seen, valued, loved, and connected to something bigger than ourselves.
That’s one of the reasons I feel so passionate about the work we do at Blush Event Garden. Every day, we have the opportunity to help people celebrate milestones that mark important chapters in their lives. Whether it’s a wedding, a graduation, a baby shower, or a birthday, those moments become part of a family’s story.
What matters most to me is creating impact in a way that brings people together. I want to build businesses, experiences, and communities that help people connect with one another and remember what truly matters.
At the end of the day, I don’t think people remember us for our resumes or accomplishments. I think they remember how we made them feel, how we showed up for them, and the moments we shared together. That’s a philosophy that guides both my personal life and the businesses I’m building.
If there’s one thing I hope people take away from my story, it’s that life moves quickly. The moments we have with the people we love are precious, and they’re worth celebrating. Those moments are what matter most to me, and they’re the reason behind everything we do.
