Today we’d like to introduce you to Jane Marryshow.
Hi Jane, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey has been one of faith, resilience, and reinvention.
I was born in Grenada and later moved to the United States, carrying with me a strong work ethic, deep faith, and a desire to build a better future. Throughout my life I have embraced many roles including mother, author, coach, publisher, and nonprofit founder. Perhaps the most defining moment was making the courageous decision to leave an abusive relationship and start over.
With faith as my foundation, I relocated to Texas with my two children and a fierce determination to create a new chapter. That season was hard, but it taught me resilience, perseverance, and the power of trusting God even when the path ahead is uncertain.
Over the years I built a career in Human Resources, earned my degree in Business Management, and became a certified life coach. Along the way I discovered a deep passion for helping others navigate life’s transitions and recognize their own potential. That passion eventually led me to launch JDC Publishing & Co., where I help first-time authors transform their manuscripts into published books.
In 2019 I founded The Resource Closet, a nonprofit dedicated to helping women in transition regain confidence through professional clothing and career-readiness resources. Although COVID halted our momentum, I restarted the organization in 2024 with renewed purpose. In December 2025 we held our first dress drive and received over 110 dresses, and since then the movement has grown to serve more than 130 women.
My mission in everything I do remains the same: helping people recognize their worth, embrace their story, and move forward with confidence. Sometimes our most difficult seasons become the very foundation for the life God is calling us to build.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road
Like many entrepreneurs and nonprofit founders, I have faced my share of personal and professional challenges. One of the biggest obstacles was rebuilding my life after leaving an abusive relationship. Starting over required faith, courage, and a willingness to trust God even when I could not see the full picture.
Another challenge was relocating to Texas and creating a new life from the ground up. There were seasons filled with uncertainty, financial pressures, and moments when I questioned whether I was on the right path. Building a business, supporting my family, and pursuing my dreams often meant taking risks and stepping outside of my comfort zone.
I have also experienced health challenges that forced me to slow down and reevaluate what truly matters. Those experiences reminded me that success means very little if you do not take care of yourself along the way.
Professionally, building JDC Publishing and The Resource Closet has come with its own set of challenges. I founded The Resource Closet in 2019, but COVID halted our momentum just as we were getting started. Restarting from scratch in 2024 required a fresh level of persistence and faith. Starting anything from the ground up means working to establish credibility and visibility with limited resources, and there have been moments when progress felt slow. But I have learned that consistency matters more than speed.
Looking back, every obstacle taught me something valuable. The difficult seasons strengthened my faith, deepened my compassion for others, and helped shape the work I do today. Many of the women I serve through The Resource Closet and the authors I support through JDC Publishing & Co. are navigating their own transitions and challenges. Because of my own experiences, I can meet them with understanding, encouragement, and the belief that their current circumstances do not determine their future.
If there is one lesson I have learned, it is that setbacks are often setups for something greater. The road has not been easy, but every challenge has played a role in shaping the person I am today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The Resource Closet is a community initiative dedicated to helping women in transition regain confidence through professional clothing, career-readiness resources, and encouragement. Our mission is simple: to ensure every woman feels heard, empowered, and restored as she takes the next step toward a brighter future.
What started as a desire to help women access professional attire has grown into something much bigger. We believe that confidence is just as important as clothing. When a woman walks into an interview, starts a new job, leaves a difficult situation, or begins rebuilding her life, she deserves to feel seen, valued, and prepared.
We provide carefully curated clothing, accessories, and career-readiness resources in a boutique-style environment designed to restore dignity and self-confidence. We also offer Career Ready packages, which give women everything they need to show up polished and prepared for their next opportunity. I am proud to partner with my local domestic violence shelter to provide these Career Ready boxes directly to women who need them most. We want every woman who connects with our organization to know that she is more than her circumstances and that her future is full of possibilities.
What sets The Resource Closet apart is our focus on the whole woman. We are not simply distributing clothing. We are helping women rediscover confidence, hope, and self-worth. Every item donated and every interaction is rooted in compassion, dignity, and empowerment.
I am especially proud of the impact we have made in a relatively short period of time. Since relaunching in 2024, we have collected and distributed hundreds of clothing items and served more than 130 women throughout our community. Those numbers represent real lives, real stories, and real opportunities.
In addition to The Resource Closet, I am the founder of JDC Publishing & Co., where I help aspiring and first-time authors bring their stories to life through self-publishing. While the two organizations serve different audiences, they share the same core belief: every person has value, every story matters, and everyone deserves the opportunity to move forward with confidence.
More than anything, I want readers to know that The Resource Closet is about transformation. We are building a community where women feel supported, encouraged, and equipped to walk confidently into their next chapter.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My biggest piece of advice is to start before you feel ready.
Many people spend years waiting for the perfect time, the perfect plan, or the perfect set of circumstances. The truth is, there will never be a perfect time. Growth happens when you take the first step, even when you’re uncertain.
I also wish I had understood earlier that success is rarely an overnight event. What people often see is the result, but they don’t see the years of learning, mistakes, setbacks, and persistence behind it. Building something meaningful takes time, and that’s okay.
Another lesson I’ve learned is not to compare your beginning to someone else’s middle. It’s easy to look at people who are further along and feel discouraged. Instead, focus on your own journey and celebrate progress, no matter how small.
I would also encourage new entrepreneurs and nonprofit founders to build genuine relationships. Some of the greatest opportunities in my life and business have come through community, collaboration, and people who believed in my vision. You don’t have to do everything alone.
Most importantly, stay connected to your purpose. There will be days when things don’t go as planned, when resources are limited, or when you question whether you’re making a difference. During those moments, your purpose will keep you moving forward.
If I could tell my younger self one thing, it would be this: trust the process, trust God’s timing, and keep going. The path may not look exactly how you imagined it, but every experience is preparing you for what comes next.
