Exploring Life & Business with Kelly Ann Winget of Alternative Wealth Partners

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Ann Winget.

Hi Kelly Ann, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I come from a multi-generational, on both sides, oil and gas family. My parents both worked in financial services, so discussions about money and their entrepreneurial spirit were very much a part of my everyday life growing up. My siblings and I were always encouraged to carve our own paths and knew we had support from our parents. This had a profound impact on me as I can now attribute much of my success to having a safe space to fail, knowing that when I made mistakes early on in my career I was able to learn from them rather than being defined by those mishaps. It shaped me into a better person than if I’d simply been successful from the get-go.

Despite being born into generational wealth, my journey to the top was anything but traditional. I am a self-made entrepreneur, having never earned a college degree. My financial acumen was honed in predominantly male-dominated spaces, where I learned transferable skills that proved valuable across various industries. My first job was selling carwashes part-time in highschool, despite being the only woman and 16, I was making almost six-figures, achieving some of the highest sales records regionally in the company. I was often the only woman in the room throughout my career.

Today, I lead the management of investments across more than 25 portfolio companies across three private equity funds at Alternative Wealth Partners, a venture I founded in 2020. I believe the future of wealth management is shifting and the next generation of capital deserves access to opportunities that align with their missions, values, and financial futures. AWP creatively structures our alternatives funds to support our clients’ portfolio diversification, tax, and impact strategies.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This is a loaded question, haha! Everyone is aware of the narrative about women in leadership, finance, and entrepreneurship. I’ve been fortunate enough to be raised in an environment where nothing was off the table. Limits were just things we put in place for ourselves and that if we wanted something, we were the only thing standing in our way. I have encountered multiple situations where my age, my gender, my lack of an ivy-league MBA excluded me from an opportunity, however, my deep sense of self always carried me through another open door. This world wasn’t created by those that followed the status quo.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Alternative Wealth Partners is a wealth management firm, specializing in alternative assets and private equity. We provide active management of our clients Alternatives portfolio while supporting their impact investment and tax strategies. Our clients work with us because the traditional financial services industry doesn’t know how to work with the entrepreneur and high-net worth next gen. We are entrepreneurial next-gens ourselves so our investment thesis mirrors that initiative.

How do you define success?
I define success as being a part of a thriving, motivated, and collaborative network. That my contributions and my clients’ contribution is actually making the world a better place. That people are happier, wealthier, and have a sense of purpose. Personally and professionally, success continues to look like a happy home and happy clients.
