Hi McKinlei, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started Gorgeous Couture Creations in 2018, before the COVID-19 pandemic. I’ve always had an eye for design and a passion for party planning, but working at Party City during my first year of college truly opened my eyes to how much I loved bringing people’s visions to life and creating unforgettable moments.
I started my business by offering event planning services along with specialty cakes and chocolate-covered treats. During my junior year of college, I made the difficult decision to put my business on hold so I could focus on my education and graduate early.
After earning my bachelor’s degree In general business at UNT Dallas in December 2024, God placed a new vision on my heart. In January 2025, I expanded Gorgeous Couture Creations by introducing luxury picnics, and that one step transformed the direction of my business.
Today, in 2026, Gorgeous Couture Creations has grown into a luxury event styling brand offering luxury picnics, luxury hotel room setups, custom party favors, and luxury floral arrangements through our floral division, Couture Blooms.
Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful for how far this journey has come. None of it would have been possible without God’s guidance, His blessings, and the support of every customer who has trusted me to be part of their special moments. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in my vision. Glory be to God for every opportunity, every lesson, and every milestone along the way.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like many small business owners, one of my biggest challenges has been the inconsistency in bookings and orders. There are busy seasons where my calendar is full, followed by slower periods that require me to stay creative and continue marketing my business.
Another challenge has been the rising cost of materials. Inflation has significantly impacted the prices of items like strawberries for my dessert business and fresh flowers for Couture Blooms. Learning how to adjust pricing while still providing luxury-quality products at a fair price has been a balancing act.
Finding reliable wholesale flower vendors was also a learning curve. It took time, research, and trial and error to find suppliers that consistently delivered the quality I wanted for my clients.
As an event planner, I’ve also learned that not everything goes according to plan. Weather changes, last-minute client requests, vendor issues, and unexpected obstacles have taught me how to think quickly, adapt, and improvise while still creating a beautiful experience. Those moments have helped me grow not only as a business owner but also as a leader.

Adding luxury picnics completely transformed my business, and expanding into Couture Blooms has allowed me to combine my love for event styling with my passion for floral design.
As a business owner, I believe luxury should feel personal. I take the time to get to know my clients, understand their vision, and create something that truly represents them. I want every customer to leave feeling seen, celebrated, and cared for.

What’s next?
My long-term goal is to open my own party store and floral shop a place where clients can find everything they need to celebrate life’s special moments under one roof. I envision it being more than just a store; I want it to be a destination for luxury celebrations, fresh flowers, custom gifts, and event inspiration.
I’m also excited about launching a monthly subscription service that delivers fresh floral arrangements, sweet treats, and personalized gifts. I love the idea of helping my clients celebrate everyday moments, not just major milestones.
One area I’m especially looking forward to growing is marriage proposals. They have become one of my favorite events to design because I get to play a small part in one of the biggest moments of a couple’s life. From the planning process to seeing the joy and emotion on their faces, it’s incredibly rewarding. I hope to create even more unforgettable proposal experiences in the years to come.
